Journalist actually don't vote on the Sporting News awards. It's a combination of players, managers, and executives. There isn't much info on how many participated or what the vote % was. But since Baldwin won the MLBPA ROY, it's safe to say it was likely a close race.Well, that isn’t promising news if one of the RoY awards voted on by journalists went to Horton, since that’s who decides the MLB award.
He can be the first in history to win it three times in 2027 when he tears both ACL's this upcoming season during one of his homerun trots. His second time? Before turning 28?
I wouldn't say that if he wasn't the best rookie of course but he was. He played the hardest position and was better than the rest of the NL rookies and did it from day 1. If Horton or somebody else was there from day 1 their stats may look a lot worse.I don’t get this mentality. Why should Baldwin get the award over others because he was there from day 1. If he wasn’t the best rookie then who cares.
Now I agree the pick is a stupid way to make teams play rookies. But it shouldn’t be a factor in who gets the award.
Horton won one of the informal onesI think Baldwin has won all the informal ROTY awards and I'm guessing he'll win again tomorrow. I wouldn't be shocked if Durbin won simply because writers love the underdog story and although I think he will get some first-place votes, I don't think he'll win. If Durbin does win, I want Lucas Luetge to make the announcement.
Missed that one.Horton won one of the informal ones
Horton won the Sporting News ROYMissed that one.
I thought that was Murphy since he was Baldwin's backup and pretended to be a good player once. But Baldwin won the Golden Globe and the Critic's Choice Award, so he's a shoe-in for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
