I think the logic goes that since the draft pick is being awarded as incentive to promote players early, it doesn’t make sense not to reward a team for promoting a prospect early.I don’t get this mentality. Why should Baldwin get the award over others because he was there from day 1. If he wasn’t the best rookie then who cares.
Now I agree the pick is a stupid way to make teams play rookies. But it shouldn’t be a factor in who gets the award.
And this is exactly how the voters should see it also. Additionally, RoY campaigns for guys with short seasons means they didn’t have to go through the ups and downs of a full season. A few good months is not the same as 6 good months.
