FA market is pretty slim unless we are gonna pay Bichette. WIllie Castro can technically play SS, but he is not a good defender. Trevor Story could be interestin if he opts out, but it will most certainly cost more than the 2/55 he is already guaranteed.
So back to the trade options it is.
JP Crawford probably makes the most sense. Mariners have a slew of top SS prospects. Crawford has 1 year remaining and isn't a core player. We aren't a strong fit for what they need, but if we took on Castillo's contract, maybe we find a match there?
Winn would also be nice. But I am not sure how well we match up now that Murphy had surgery. Maybe if we take on the entire Sonny Gray contract we can buy down the prospect capital?
Zach Neto is a name I have seen pop up a time or 2. I think it's unlikely they trade him though.
Carlos Correa is far from the top target, but if Houston would eat some salary, there could be a match there.
Corey Seagar's name has also come up. Tex has an elite SS prospect ready to take over. But Seagar's contract is pretty poor with 6/189 remaining. They would need to eat a lot of money here. But the prospect package should not be substantial.
Jordan Lawler doesn't really have a spot in AZ and his value might be down a small tick after a very poor (and short) cup of tea in the majors this year.
CJ Abrams is technically an option, but he is a poor defender and seems to have some character/attitude issues. I would not expect us to have interest.
Finally, Jackson Holliday might be someone that needs a change of scenery. He's been ok, but nothing special so far in the majors.
