The metrics had him a hair above average that year, and over his whole career he was slightly above average. Nate McLouth was a bad fielder who got the GG during an especially bad year, which is a true feat.
I somehow never appreciated that McLouth put up a -2.7 bWAR in 2010. That shouldn't even be possible.
Oh for the glory days where you could get a gold glove while being -23 runs on defense.
1) Arm was a big part of his game, but for the first few years Frenchy was also an all around plus defender (+43 DRS, only +21 from his arm, in his first 3 years).
2) WAR credits you for the guys who don't run.
Yeah, but his minor league BB:K is like 1:2 and consistent at higher levels vs. Frenchy's which was like 1:5 and declining as he ascended (and got his face destroyed).
