    Possible SP target... maybe

I think it's absolutely crazy for him to say; it's better than the package we got for Shelby Miller, which people said at the time was close to what a package for Jose Fernandez should look like.

    Projecting the offseason 40-man roster

Yeah Roe seems like he has some upside and I'd like to see him start the year on the MLB team. Hursh and Janas put up nice ERAs, but career middle relievers who strike out 5-6 guys per 9 aren't exactly difficult to replace.

    Predict the Rotation

Yeah and he'll also be 35 on opening day. It's not a bad idea to take on a recovery project, but he doesn't have all that much time left to rebound.

I'm confused - what do you think he did with the Rays in 2008?

    2016 Postseason Thread

Oh yeah, they're definitely still figuring it out (hopefully). But the fact that the pendulum moved at all is significant, and I hope it'll lead to managers thinking more about leverage and times through the order when they make decisions about pulling a starter or which reliever to use.

    2016 Postseason Thread

It might just be me, but it seemed like there was significantly more conversation about leverage and reliever usage during the playoffs this year than ever before. The Royals' WS win already had people paying more attention to the bullpen, so I could see teams putting more thought into the way...

    2016 Postseason Thread

The reason gilesfan is getting frustrated is because you're ignoring everything that contradicts what you're saying: -Not every team that made the playoffs had good pitching (Orioles, Blue Jays, Red Sox, Rangers). Not every team with good pitching made the playoffs. -Even disregarding the...

Is it within realm to get Sale?

I think it's more like 9.5 times out of 10 the player isn't traded because no one wants to pay the asking price.

In what universe is Kemp a better hitter than Freddie?

2016 Trade Deadline Rumors and Moves

His OF defense is Manny-esque and literally the only thing he does well on offense is hit for power. He's 32 and hasn't been worth putting on the field since 2012. Even if the Padres pay $60 million of his remaining salary over the next three years, you're still stuck paying $5 million a year...

2016 Trade Deadline Rumors and Moves

The Marlins may have spent money, but they didn't spend prospects, which is what would have to happen for us to get Lucroy. I don't think anyone believes the Braves aren't going to spend money in the offseason. They will have a lot of it available and unless they give out some budget-crippling...

7/28 THURSDAY MINORS FINAL: Riley, Davidson hit 10th HRs

I think the lack of contact skills in combination with the high strikeout rate is the problem. A high strikeout rate alone could just be an indication of a raw, aggressive approach at the plate and that isn't necessarily hard to refine. The high walk rate also would seem to suggest he has...

Trade Deadline: What are you willing to do?

You don't need to know the price. If he were available for a price that made sense to a rebuilding team, a contender would've traded for him already. What's hard to understand about that?

Keith Law ranks Braves system #1 in midseason update

When you have more money to spend than most teams you tend to accumulate more big contracts, and creaky veterans are more likely to be the players with big contracts. That and they have a good scouting department.
