Another corner OF target that I find interesting is Nomar Mazara, and he's reportedly available. He's arbitration eligible for the first time this year with 3 years of control. Thus far, he's underperformed his pedigree, but there's some upside left (he's 23). As a LHH with platoon splits, he...

While the Markakis contract didn't play out as badly as it could have, I surely hope we'd only entertain having him back on a 1-year deal . . . and with the expectation that he's going to sit some against LHP. The latter part is a tough pill for a guy like Markakis to swallow.

Hmm. That is a reasonable deal on Brantley at two years and no option. Similar to the Morton deal, I'll be a little disappointed if the Braves didn't make an offer.

Rule 5 prediction . . . Braves will trade up. AA said they were looking at a few guys, so not sure he'll want to wait and see if they make it to the 20th pick

    2018 Offseason And Targets

I'll be curious to hear if the Braves made an offer on Morton. Will be a little disappointed if they didn't. I'd prefer to stay away from Keuchel unless his market collapses. I'm sure AA will keep grinding in the coming days, but no worries at all if we wait out the market til January or...

I like Morton too as long as it's a two-year deal. It sounds like he's very focused on being close to his wife's family in Delaware though, so guessing he's not gonna be an option. Happ still still seems like be best FA option, but the offer we supposedly made today was probably dead on...

I like Happ as a target if it's a two-year deal. I figure he's more likely headed to NYY though.

Agreed. My view is that if there's a team out there that values him in the 3-4 annual WAR range for his remaining years of control, the return would make sense for the Braves given their depth of RH SPs.

I definitely like the idea of selling high on established MLB players and am glad to see Folty's name mentioned. Personally, I think there's a much better chance he takes a modest step backwards to a 2-3 WAR player versus maintaining a 3-4 WAR level.

WAS, PHI, and NYM are gonna be big spenders no matter what. The best we can hope for is they spend their money acquiring risky long-term contracts like Cano and Corbin. I'm happy to see them drive hard to win the offseason.

Man, it's disappointing to see PHI do so well in this trade . . . and I say that as someone who is fairly pessimistic on Segura's value. Crawford has looked noticeably bad at SS when I've seen him there, and the numbers don't look great either. To me, he's on the outside looking in when it...

Braves sign Donaldson, 1 yr 23 million deal.

Very happy with this. If I'm Donaldson, I don't take a one year deal this early in the offseason. I'm not implying that he won't do well in 2019, but if he wins the bet on himself and stays healthy and productive, he's going to be facing a QO from the Braves as he looks to re-enter the market...

    2018 Offseason And Targets

McCann is a solid option for us if Maldonado and Ramos don't work out. I'd have to assume he will sign for a 1 year deal . . . and will also be inclined to wait on our decision to come back home. From what I can see, McCann is a slight defensive upgrade from Suzuki and not much of an offensive...

I prefer the Yankees side of this deal. In Braves terms, the industry valuation on Sheffield would be most similar to Toussaint, I assume? I was thinking that it would take better secondary pieces to get Paxton than the two guys NYY gave up if the primary guy is Sheffield.

    2018 Offseason And Targets

I'm not as hot on Austin Riley as some due to concerns about his defense, but I'd still be reluctant to trade him. He should be a solid MLB contributor, and he serves as a nice insurance policy at AAA if we encounter injury or underperformance at any of the infield positions. I'd like to see...

    Market for Catchers

The multiple reports from Bowman on the Braves' focus on Realmuto has me real nervous. You have to think the acquisition cost will be very high (Bowman mentioned a Soroka and Riley package was discussed in July). His pitch framing numbers the past view years have been consistently poor, so he...

I can't believe MLB Network has a 2.5 hour pregame show for the game. Lovin' it though!
