    Braves Sign Flaherty

Flaherty has defensive value, but he just doesn't seem to be a good fit for us, so a little perplexed. We already have quite a bit of versatility in the IF and a plus bench glove in Culberson. I don't get it.

    GDT 3/24 vs Yankees

Case in point, I think Bryce Brentz is worth at least considering over Lane Adams, who I've not been high on. He's a RH version of Preston Tucker, so a good platoon partner in the short term. If the plan is truly to bring Acuna up 4/14, Brentz could fit better than Tucker as the 4th OF at that...

    GDT 3/24 vs Yankees

After the game, Kazmir said his arm was tired because he threw 90 pitches in a side session Wednesday because he didn't know he was pitching today?!? Guessing that was a factor in his unconditional release. I hope AA is keeping a close watch on guys being released from other squads. I would...

    GDT-- Sun--3/11 vs Tigers

Hmm. That pitch to Iglesias was definitely a 2016-2017 Wisler pitch. He just can't afford many - if any - of those if he wants to survive at this level.

    GDT-- Sun--3/11 vs Tigers

That must be the pitch I've seen he's been able to keep low with late movement. Part of me was thinking it was a change up.

    GDT-- Sun--3/11 vs Tigers

It's definitely harder to tell with no radar gun, but it seems like Wisler is mixing things up more than I remember (pitches, locations). I think that's the right approach for him since he doesn't really have a consistent out-pitch. His command looks pretty solid overall.

Camp ends! Finals moves TBA for Opening Day.

This Tuesday is the deadline to release players on non-guaranteed contracts w/ just 30 day termination pay owed. I think that Rex Brothers would be the only possible casualty for ATL. I'm more interested to see who may free up from other teams...

The Good, Bad, and Ugly of ST so far

I'm pretty bullish on Anthopolous, but I'm getting nervous that he has inadequately prepared for the quality position player depth that's needed if injuries strike in even a normal way. I know we're not gearing up to win the World Series, but I think there is a basic level of decency you've got...

    Dickerson DFA’d

Definitely surprised to see any team pay $7m for Dickerson in this market. Especially PIT.

Around the League: 2017 offseason edition / 2018 Season

I assume $3-4m as well. Both Jay and Dickerson are from the South, so maybe there will be mutual interest with at least one of them.

Around the League: 2017 offseason edition / 2018 Season

The corner OF market is moving very fast now. Colby Rasmus, Carlos Gomez, Cameron Maybin, Jabari Blash, and Michael Saunders all signed today. Jon Jay and Corey Dickerson still out there. With Maybin and Gomez signing in the $3-4m range, I expect Dickerson to pass through waivers and become a...

Does anyone have a read on Jabari Blash's defense? Considerable K rate concerns, but has RH power, some OB skills, and some degree of upside. 966113567794712576

Around the League: 2017 offseason edition / 2018 Season

It's looking more likely than I thought that Corey Dickerson will pass through waivers unclaimed and become a FA at this rate. BAL will probably end up with Cargo, Jay, or Dickerson (most likely one of the first two). Maybe we'll be in the mix for the remaining 2 or Maybin.

    Dickerson DFA’d

The Dickerson situation is worth monitoring, but I'd prefer a RHH. I'd like to be able to platoon Markakis in the post-Acuna lineup. Cameron Maybin and Chris Young are the most realistic RHH options, I think.

    Dickerson DFA’d

I'm not a huge fan of Dickerson, but he would obviously be an upgrade to our roster. Would guess the Rays feel like they'll be able to trade him (or already have a trade in hand) if they are designating him.

Discussion of Braves 2018 Offseason plans

Agreed. To my knowledge, Nunez has no strong preference on geography like Frazier. It's gonna be about $ and playing time. I have to assume Nunez will command a lesser deal than Frazier. Maybe 1 year for $6-7m with a vesting option?

Discussion of Braves 2018 Offseason plans

Good detail from DOB on the Braves thinking on 3B. Also, this depressing tidbit . . . http://www.myajc.com/blog/atlanta-braves/frazier-for-braves-likely-moustakas-here-why/d7oBitpK4El24sHewGeusL/

Discussion of Braves 2018 Offseason plans

I suspect Frazier preferred NYY to NYM, but he fits the Mets needs better. Nice move by them to beat out their cross-town rivals. I continue to think our realistic fit in this 3B market is the player or team that has nowhere left to turn. Nunez may have too many suitors to be that guy...
