    Official Offseason Thread

Wow, I liked Clvclv's idea that maybe AA is trying to build a deeper pen to help cut down innings for our somewhat inning restricted young starters. They seemed to play that down this year but I still think it's a concern. I also was thinking Kimbrel was needed more last offseason, but then...

    Braves Sign Will Smith

AA seems to think out of the box and I think that's how he wrapped his mind around this move. "I'm worried about our relievers after 2020, we really need a lefty reliever, with our new draft philosophy losing a pick is no biggie". Does seem goofy when you think of all these pitchers we are...

    Official Offseason Thread

They generally related McCann starting to us facing right handed pitchers. I agree that Flowers is fine. But then again Riley and Camargo at third probably would put up a similar WAR as what we'd get out of catcher. And we really only have one weak outfield corner (assuming Inciarte is back)...

    Official Offseason Thread

I like Wheeler but in general I'm not sure that I'd trust most of the starters we are discussing much more than Newcomb, or even Tomlin. Gotta also remember we have Touki, Weigel, Mueller, etc. I think we pick up the options on all our upcoming contracts including Teheran. Then we start...

    Keuchel Named Game 1 Starter

I'd definitely start McCann in a game1 vs a righty.

    Starting Pitching

It always seemed to me the the Dodgers platoon/lineup adjust enough that an opener would mess with them substantially.

    Starting Pitching

I don't want AA/Snit to read Enscheff's idea to start Fried game1. I'm actually leaning towards not wanting to start him at all unless we are already up and then it's somewhat to get him some playoff experience. But I do love the idea of Newcomb or Jackson ,etc opening the game. Hopefully...

    Prospects become currency

It's funny that Allard for Martin seemed to be the best of the deals and now it seems the worst. We will have way overpaid if he becomes a backend starter, but we have plenty of backend starters. Really I bet what AA is trying to avoid is to not trade off a current starter prospect that could...

    Magic Number Thread

Wow, I'm a math guy and I did not realize the magic number was this low. For a few weeks I have just been thinking that if we make it to 95 wins we have it. Kind of like the first to score 100 in the NBA always wins.

Sporcle: Can you name the Atlanta Braves Opening Day lineups since 1991?

You guys are way better than me. I'm still hung up on the "91 opening day starting pitcher. It flashed into my mind that "oh yeah, we still had Doyal Alexander"....but then how could we have already traded him for Smoltz. That's right, I'm getting Charlie Leibrandt and Doyal Alexander...

Max Fried threw sinkers last night!

At least a 60 CU. That's great to hear. Makes sense, even a great pitch can get hit hard if they know it's coming, you hang it, etc.

Sporcle: Can you name the Atlanta Braves Opening Day lineups since 1991?

Just 1991 was interesting enough for me. Way to much work to try to fill all of that out. Was Rick Mahler still our opening day starter in 1991? The opening day starter the next few years would also be interesting. I'd have went with Avery in 1992, Glavine 1993. Saw Avery on the alumni...

Max Fried threw sinkers last night!

Thanks Enscheff. I somehow missed this 2018 thread. I remember you wanting him to throw a SI, then I saw him throwing one in his last start. I was hoping you'd give us the stats on how it looked, didn't realize you already had. Do you still feel the SI rates as a 55 and the CU a 60? When...

    Manager of the Year

It is interesting to think about who we bring back next year. I'd be very satisfied if we brought back almost all of the same team which includes resigning Donaldson and Keuchel. I questioned how effective Riley would be even when he started hot. I would let Teheran go and I'd try to trade...

Generic minor league thread - Until the Great Rico returns

Is he Zobrist or LaStella is a better comparison for Shewmake (both of which would also be fine).

    Is Folty “back”?

With all the talk about the slicker ball last night, that further pushes me into thinking that much of Folty's issues are related to the ball. His grip type caused more issues and that was compounded by his failure to adapt. I think he'll be fine, but 2018 was more of just a hot streak. I...

Great article on evaluating value of Catchers.

Game management would be harder to assess. I'd think the best way might be just to get pitchers to score the catcher. If you try to use ERA, etc it would take a few years of data to really make it reliable. But I'd definitely guess pitchers trust McCann more than practically any catcher out...

    Acuña in HR Derby!

I'd also rather see Riley. I remember Acuna coming in second in a minor league derby. I actually hope he shows well but barely loses in the first round.
