Braves extend Acuña with 8 year deal

They added additional years, though. Sure, as part of an extension, a player may be able to get a team to increase his current salary as well. But no team is just going to pay more than they agreed with no benefit to themselves. This does give us a potential opportunity, should Acuna be good...

Braves extend Acuña with 8 year deal

Well, through his age 30 season, right?

Braves extend Acuña with 8 year deal

Huh? That would never happen. No team is going to say, you know that $12 million we're guaranteed to pay you next year that you are under contract to play for? Let's make it $24 million, why not?

Braves extend Acuña with 8 year deal

Enscheff's got to be rolling his eyes. He spends so much time telling us no one would be that stupid...and then, well, someone is that stupid.

    Fried's new pitch

Genuine question - when a guy has multiple very good breaking balls, does it lessen the need somewhat for movement on the fastball? Obviously his fastball will never be above average if it's that flat, but is it possible that it's a 40 pitch that in his repertoire acts more like a 45-50 because...

OPENING DAY GDT 03/28/19 Braves @ Phillies

Dang, Teheran actually looking good. Honestly never expected it.

    3/25 GDT Fried vs Reds

Eh. He's gone from overrated to probably now underrated, but let's not get carried away. We now have 4 years of him simply being mediocre to pretty good.

Braves check in at 14 in first power rankings

The Braves were ahead of schedule last year. The dumb thing to do would have been to say 'Oh, ok, our window is now open' and go 'all in' only to shorten the backside of that window. Stay the course; it's a good one, and we are beginning to see why.

    2018 Offseason And Targets

Inciarte's most valuable defensive season (according to BR) was when he was primarily in RF and LF.

Update on catcher WAR on Fangraphs

That was my argument all along...that if you trust the framing value at all, and I'm assuming the Braves do, it didn't make sense to pay a ton for JTR.

Update on catcher WAR on Fangraphs

It also makes Flowers slightly less valuable than Realmuto from 2016-2018 in 139 fewer games.

    2018 Offseason And Targets

It has more to do with speed than it does his hit tool. He had a .347 BABIP the year before. I agree that it won't stay that high, but he will likely be able to maintain an above-average BABIP. That, combined with his speed and defense, is a valuable player.

    2018 Offseason And Targets

I could see it going either way. It could build pressure on him, or it could relieve pressure. That may have been why he prioritized length of contract over AAV. He clearly wanted the security of having the rest of his career guaranteed because he saw that the pressure to perform toward the next...

    2018 Offseason And Targets

Luckily, time has proven that a) these guys don't really know anything, and b) offseason moves are almost always overemphasized. Case in point: http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/12334819/mlb-best-worst-active-offseason That was the first article I found for ranking MLB offseasons. Go check...

    2018 Offseason And Targets

Well, let's only talk about 2019, since 2020 is a club option. Obviously there were better players on the market than Markakis - no question about that. But please name all the options you think you can get for even cheaper who are at least as good as Markakis.

    2018 Offseason And Targets

You can't argue for 'value signings' because they passed on paying Brantley $32 million and instead paid Markakis $4 million?

    2018 Offseason And Targets

The one answer I didn't like from AA was the, 'Uh uh uh, did we say we would spend or that we could spend?' Fans don't care if you can spend if you don't, so it doesn't help to be condescending. But I'm ok with pursuing value. The only thing is that if you do have the money, you need to...

    2018 Offseason And Targets

It can still be smart as a long-term play, I think. It all depends on how long it will actually take to pay down the debt. I agree with you that it doesn't seem like a sound strategy if it will take years to pay the debt down and won't allow us to increase payroll for a decade or so. But if it...
