Valuing our Surplus Pitchers: Wisler, Sims, Fried

I agree with you on the top end, it is definitely a sellers market there (I could see Machado and Donaldson going for a bit because of that). But I don't see the Braves shopping there with Riley in AAA anyway. I was more thinking in terms of the lower couple of 3B like Moose or Lowrie. If...

Valuing our Surplus Pitchers: Wisler, Sims, Fried

Given how they kept him out of all the trades they made in recent years and how they've hyped him up a bit, I don't see them sitting him as long as he has decent performance. He's hitting .280ish with an OPS just south of .800 ATM, they aren't going to sit a rookie performing like that. Now if...

Valuing our Surplus Pitchers: Wisler, Sims, Fried

The difference this year however is almost every contending team has a good 3B. The Angels, Cards and Pirates are the only contenders besides us that don't already have really solid 3B in place. And the pirates are pretty unlikely to get into a crazy bidding war.

Tampa Bay Rays, Oakland Athletics, new stadiums, and expansion discussion

Yeah. there is no room in Scottsdale for a stadium, no way it ends up there. He's talking about Salt River area east of 101, which could make sense as a new location.

    5/13: GDT at Marlins

Probably because there have been pitchers who have maintained decent success for a while with that profile. Gio Gonzalez (who I've always thought was a good upside comp for Newk) just right off the top of my head for someone was effectively wild for his first couple of seasons before gaining...

SUNDAY MINORS FINAL 5/13/18: Record day for Riley!

Starting to look like that's a good bet for his upside for sure. Hopefully he can be more of a .270ish hitter rather than .250ish, but Glaus had a career OPS right around .850ish and was a pretty special player before age and injuries got to him. We'd be sitting pretty if Riley turns into that.

    GDT 5/10 Braves @ Marlins

I've always thought Brinson was super overrated due to his contact issues and having to repeat levels to have good success, but I'm not sure why this is amazing in any way. Brinson has been a top 20-25 prospect the past three seasons, and was #13 on fangraphs going into this season. The marlins...

SUNNY SUNDAY MINORS FINAL D5/6/18: Pen Wastes Anderson Gem

What the heck does what people said last year or in previous years about Riley have to do with anything you said in this particular thread? Many people have questioned Riley's bat speed and defense in the past, including myself. Hopefully he continues to prove those of us that doubted him wrong...

    GDT: Braves @ Reds 4/24

Carmargo's expressions during that entire at bat were awesome. :happy0157:

    GDT: 23 Apr 18 @ 6:40 pm...Braves @ Reds...No Comargo :(

Yep. Snitker has made consistently idiotic decisions with the bullpen all year long, but the walks thing is really out of his control. We have a whopping 2 relievers with walk rates under 14%, Winkler (10%, which is not good in and of itself) and Carle (6.5%). When you have exactly one reliever...

    2018 MLB Draft Thread

It's not just the Braves, drafting HS pitchers in the 2nd round is just a bad idea period during current draft history. There has been one top pitching prospect drafted in the second round from high school from the 2010-2017 drafts, and that's Mitch Keller from the Pirates. There have been...

    GDT: 4/14/2018 Cubs

These are the situations that piss me off with our manager, WTF is Newcomb still in there for with north of 100 pitches on a day like today?

Around the League: 2017 offseason edition / 2018 Season

Mookie Betts (5th round, 2011) and Cody Bellinger (4th round, 2013) say this is simply not true off the top of my head. Way too soon to say how good he'll be, but the Rangers Willie Calhoun is a nice prospect that was drafted in the 4th round in 2015 as well. There are usually a couple really...

    Cole to Astros

Musgrove and Moran are MLB players, but not particularly good ones. Feliz has pitched two full seasons and has an ERA over 5 despite having a superb K rate. There is very little upside in this trade for the Pirates, they got filler/borderline MLB players for a guy who was a genuine Ace before...

    Cole to Astros

The Astros just got Cole for very little, how on earth is this trade an example of what you just said? The Astros didn't even give up a single top 100 prospect for him (Musgrove was mid 80s to 90ish before he went to the majors, but is a #4/#5 back of the rotation piece at this point).

Megathread: Braves lose Maitan, Bae and 10+ plus International Sanctions.

I've always thought this was the best comp for him if everything worked out. But the key there will be Newk developing his changeup, otherwise he really has no chance as anything other than a stuff 4/5 that goes 5 innings regularly. Gio actually has 3 legit pitches, which has allowed him to be...

    Scouting the FA starting pitchers

Exactly. Creating a logjam for no particular reason makes zero sense to me.
