GDT 9/30/21: Braves vs Philthies - 4 the Sweep and the Division

Obviously you carry the 8 position starters, the big three starting pitchers, and Jackson, Will, Minter, Matzek, and Rich Rod. That’s 16. Obvious bench players: Joc, Heredia, Adrianza and a backup catcher (is Vogt healthy?) Potential bench players: Arcia, another backup catcher, maybe Pache...

Around the League - 2021 Szn

I was just watching the MLB network and Christopher Russo was congratulating the Yankees for hosting the wild card game?! But the way I see it, with three games left, the Yankees are 2 games up on the Mariners and Red Sox, and three up on the Jays. The Yankees have three games left with the...

GDT 9/28/21: Braves vs Philthies - The series that defines our year

Will Smith in the last month. 12 innings, 1.08 WHIP, 2.25 ERA, 12K/9. Perfect? No. "Downright terrible"? Not by a long shot. In August he probably was "downright terrible".

GDT 9/28/21: Braves vs Philthies - The series that defines our year

Craig Kimbrel. The guy with the 4.80 ERA since being traded to the Chisox. 1 for 4 in save opportunities. 10 walks and 5 homers allowed in 22 innings.

GDT 8/17/21: Braves @ Fish - Ynoa Returns

Funny how things change. When we faced the D-Backs in April, we entered the series with an 8-10 record and the Snakes were 9-10. We won the first game of that series 5-4 and, of course, they swept the DH after game 2 was rained out. Point is, I guess, is that other than the 7 inning no-no...

    GDT: Brewers @ Braves 7/31

Will Smith's appearance tonight was his 5th since July 10. Monday is a day off. He has also pitched well this season on day two of consecutive games. It was also Rich Rod's fifth appearance since the 10th. He hadn't pitched at all in 8 days. No problem at all with either pitching tonight.

    Braves Streaming TV?

Thanks everyone for the input. To clarify, the 84.99 package includes a plethora of channels, but its the cheapest one that included the Braves' outlets. And the house in which we are living temporarily only has streaming--no dish or cable, and we will be out of here by Mid-May. The price is...

    Braves Streaming TV?

Long story short: My wife and I won't be moving into our new house until May, and our temporary quarters don't have cable or any streaming services that carry Braves games. A quick search shows that AT&T TV carries Bally Sports and Bally Sports Southeast in their 84.99 per month (no contract)...

MLB optimistic about starting season in late June

Be careful of "new case" stats. All states and locales have consistently rising testing availability, which will, of course, increase the raw numbers of positive cases. The critical stats are percentages of positive tests and, even more so, hospitalizations.

    Let's Find a RHH cOFer

Are any of those guys better options than Riley? Not sure what his wOBA splits are (it was at .307 overall), but he hit .262/.338/.646 against lefties vs. .215/.260/.416 vs. righties. BTW, his steamer projects his wOBA to be .324 in 2020, FWIW.

GDT- 10/04/19: NLDS Game Two: St. Louis Cardinals @ Atlanta Braves

I don’t think Avery was ever as good as Glavine. I recall Bill James writing at the height of Averys success that he would not be able to sustain it due to his very low K rate.

Generic minor league thread - Until the Great Rico returns

He played late in the game yesterday. Made a good catch in RF. His family was seated behind us. I think he grounded out in his only AB.

Generic minor league thread - Until the Great Rico returns

I was at the Rome game yesterday. The Shewmake homer was an opposite field shot down the LF line. Mejia threw 7 shutout innings, allowing (I think) three hits and no walks. UPDATE: Mejia allowed 4 hits with 6Ks, and 0 BBs. Also, Shewmake doesn't look he's 190. He's pretty thin.

GDT 8-9.... JULIO BLACKENS THE FISH IN CAJUN GOODNESS.....

Ryan is an interesting case. Yes, a hall of famer. When he was on he was almost literally unhittable. But he does have 292 losses a winning percentage only slightly over . 500. I agree that win percentage is not an end-all stat. BUT it becomes more relevant the larger the sample size. Bill...
