GDT: Braves @ LA Freddies 04/18

Snitker is convinced that the next game is always going to be closer than the current game and he has to save arms for some hypothetical rather than use them in high leverage situations happening in real time.

GDT: Braves @ LA Freddies 04/18

Just peak Snitker. Save the pen yesterday by burning Strider for today, even celebrate it in the postgame. Fine. But then- with that rested pen- surrender a 3-0 game in the 4th by putting Newcomb in a high leverage spot. But then- when your guys come back- surrender the game again by going with...

GDT 4-17 The Easter Bunny is Named Bryce Elder

Oh I wasn't worried about your slander in particular- I know if Rosario goes 4-4 with a HR tonight in a win you'll be talking about him as an early season dark horse MVP candidate. The ultimate 'what have you done for me lately' fan and I love it.

I thought Shuster's best pitch has always been his changeup anyways? Sounds like he's throwing low 90s but with good command and an excellent changeup. To me, he would profile as a back end rotation piece. Obviously when the velocity ticked up to 96-97 before the shutdown there was probably hope...

GDT 4-17 The Easter Bunny is Named Bryce Elder

The Rosario slander seems a little aggressive to me. No denying he's been absolutely horrific so far, but I'm not sure anyone expects him to be NLCS Eddie Rosario ever again. If he's just the .790-830 OPS guy he's been his whole career prior to 2021 he'll be fine. I don't buy that he's suddenly...

GDT 4-17 The Easter Bunny is Named Bryce Elder

Did you ever do a pitch analysis of Elder? He hasn't been great so far, but he's also made two career starts. His K/BB is about half of what it was in the minors. I imagine he'll start to adjust and will improve. I'm more worried about the metrics on his pitches at the moment than I am about his...

Anyone have a few million laying around they could toss to AA to go get Conforto?

A totally non overreacting look after 1 week

Acuna coming back obviously changes things dramatically. The top four of that lineup will be very good- especially if Ozuna keeps hitting- and you'll get enough production from guys like Ozzie, Duvall, and d'arnaud to fill out the bottom half of the lineup. The bench also gets better with...

Prediction: The Mets and Phillies will both lose at least one series to Washington.

He threw two innings in one of the last games of spring against the Red Sox in 2021. Got me excited for a hot second.

    2022 FG Positional WAR Rankings

Echo the surprise at SS being #22. Would've expected it to be #10-15 range. Also a little surprised that Pina projects for nearly the same value as TDA. I wonder what the split between those two will actually look like. Do we think Pina starts more than 60 games?

They might as well add in an incentive for Wild Card Series MVP.

    Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

Correct. Including Morton- numbers wise a top 10-15 starter in baseball when we acquired him- is completely irrelevant to a conversation about scrap heap guys we might be able to find essentially for free at the end of spring training. I don't think you can include anyone who we paid $10m+ to as...

At least we won't have to deal with him leaving a guy out an inning too long because he was trying to work around a pitcher plate appearance. That seemed to somehow come into play every game last year.

    2022 Spring Training Thread

If we were going to take one of the young guys and plug them in as a traditional 'starter' who we wanted to get 5-6+ innings from each turn, I'd probably pick Elder over anyone else right now.

No matter how hard you squint at Archer's line from last year, its tough to think optimistically. He got hit harder than he ever has, and if anything he got pretty lucky that the results weren't worse.

    2022 Spring Training Thread

I'm not sure we know that. It wouldn't surprise me if we had some interest in other options but ultimately didn't like the price or the interest wasn't mutual. I would also expect that he inquired about guys like the Oakland starters when he was pursuing Olson. That said, it certainly seems to...

    2022 Spring Training Thread

Very true. With 28 player rosters through April, the case for piggybacking some of these young guys is even stronger. We have some good options for righty-lefty mixes, and by May 1 we could have a much better feel for what Wright, Muller, Strider, Davidson, and Ynoa can be this season.
