Thank goodness we didn’t make necessary material imports from China 55% more expensive.

I take it someone high enough up finally ran the numbers on how much produce was going to go up if we kill the labor market.

I didn’t vote for Trump but I’m cautiously optimistic

I’ll never forgive Dems for what they did to such amazing work by the finance people who coined the term. It could have simmered in the background very hilariously and the left just couldn’t leave well enough alone and now it sucks.

    Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

I still can’t get over how simultaneously awful and dumb but also somehow weirdly smart this all is. Taking a pile of cash from rich foreigners to do the same things we’ve basically always done for rich foreigners without them giving a pile of cash is pretty pragmatic but it’s still so tacky and...

Why Academics Leftists and Elitists Need to Treat Ordinary Americans With Respect

So the Academics have it right this time?

Nah, what I’m saying is citizen Sturg has to report certain incomes or he goes to jail, but citizen Sturg wouldn’t need to report other certain incomes or he goes to jail. I’m not looking to convince you of this part of it, but it’s not based on immigration status.

Yeah, I don’t think Trump gives a flying fuck about the students. He’ll pretend he does to rile up his base, but he actually does seem to genuinely understand the benefits of skilled immigration. It’s one of the few areas in which Trump’s business background might have actually translated into...

Why Academics Leftists and Elitists Need to Treat Ordinary Americans With Respect

No, looting a Zara has nothing to do with protesting ICE and those that did it should be charged with theft. While we’re on the subject though, I’d be curious to explore the overall crime data during these protests vs. when there isn’t a riot. I’m absolutely not suggesting there won’t be an...

If your interest payments from your bank are significant enough that the federal government would do something to you if you didn’t report the income, then yes I’m advocating for both Pedro and Peter to have more protection than Sturg in this case.

I already answered you. In the case of someone being paid under the table, I would treat Pedro and Peter the same. I wouldn’t blindly punish Peter or deport Pedro for failing to report low wage cash payments. But I would fine the business doing it.

I’d take a bunch of that money being spent on ICE operations in cities that don’t want them there and use it to fund a robust immigration court system that can handle asylum claims more efficiently and increase the amount of people we allow in on work visas to legally be here. Continue to deport...

If you think every illegal immigrant should be deported regardless of their conduct here, that’s your business. But the burden to not pay someone illegally is on the business and I can’t follow you on the journey of treating this as some crucial aspect that undermines the whole argument for amnesty.

No, they just can’t report earnings because they might get hauled back to their country of origin. If we’re playing out a hypothetical where you’re considering a path to staying legally, it’s absurd to excuse them being here illegally but not excusing them not self-reporting their illegal...

If you got paid low wages under the table, I wouldn’t advocate for anybody punishing you either.

The current law is for commies. We just need to call it MAGA Mexarations, tell the people Mexico will be paying for the theft of their people and suddenly we’ll find 800 billion dollars for immigration courts to clear the backlog. Hell, we can even put the External Revenue Service on the case...

I didn’t vote for Trump but I’m cautiously optimistic

Again, you’re first describing an employer-led issue. I simply have more tolerance for the guy failing to disclose the earnings than the business owner flagrantly violating labor laws. And that’s really less of an immigration thing, I’m just deeply committed to strong labor protections. It’s one...
