Apparently we use Dansby’s x numbers exclusively here, so we can imagine that he’s hitting, like, .250 and providing some value.
His 2 game unconscious raking streaks and peppered clutch hits, followed as they always seem to be by 8 games of absolute futility, are enough to hypnotize. He went from being a bottom-third MLB shortstop to, maybe, barely, a middle third MLB shortstop...and hey, that’s not bad. That’s something. He’s worth running out there for lack of better options when his glove is working. But he’s just not that good, and as much as I’ve grown to appreciate that his brand of streaky mediocrity is ok, and certainly the best we’ve got, I just can’t shake the feeling that I’ve been right about him all along, and he’s just not that good, and to some degree is just coasting on being a #1 pick, a good kid, a likable guy who sells Fords, etc, and we could have just, like, kept Nick Ahmed and just had the same suck without the halo effect.
