05/17/21 GDT: Mets (Walker) @ Braves (Fried) No Ender vs a RHP

Just saying it wouldn't take much at this point.
I don’t think it’s impossible. Arcia has never been great... neither has Dansby. The difference? Arcia may be showing growth while Swanson never has

Again—as I said in another thread—Swanson has two (almost three) seasons in which he's put up twice as much WAR as Arcia has mustered in his career. Arcia's "breakout" 2020 was almost a third of what Swanson put up during that same shortened season. Arcia has more negative WAR seasons than positive, across his career (and is no spring-chicken), whilst Swanson has posted 5.2 WAR over the previous three seasons (and was pacing almost 6 WAR in 2020). You guys are just factually wrong—about the threshold Arcia would need to hit, about Swanson's lack of growth, et cetera.

And I'm not a huge Swansonstan—I would've loved to acquire Lindor to replace him; I think Story would be a huge piece to potentially upgrade the roster. Indeed, I think SS is one of the most obvious places to go outside the org to improve this current team. Moreover, I think the Arcia trade was sound and good, from an organizational standpoint. But this "replace Swanson with Arcia" mantra has everything to do with (a) disappointment in Swanson's not living up (relatively speaking) to his 1-1 draft status and (b) Arcia being a shiny new toy, and nothing to do with analysis rooted in realities.

Folks blabbering for Arcia will be the same folks calling him garbage after 20 PAs.

This team has to do something about the tactical decisions made during the game. Firing snit in the middle of the season and replacing him with someone even dumber won’t help, so the FO needs to step in and call some shots.

I don’t think Arcia is the answer, but the truth is that Dansby’s not very good, and never has been over 162. Like I said, he’s always benefited from the halo effect of being 1-1, being a nice guy, a local kid, and a fan favorite. Given the choice to watch Tron Simmons’s defensive value decline, watching hypothetical scrub (like, say, Nick Ahmed) vs. the whole Dansby-as-Larkin/Trammel discourse...I can easily see how we might have made a different choice. But, he what we’ve got. He’s good for a ridiculous couple of games occasionally. Overall, he sucks, and he always has, except for a while in 2020. He’s a middle-third guy at best, and that’s better than the bottom third guy he’d been ‘til then. I don’t think we should be trying to get rid of him tonight, but I sure as hell think we need to be moving on from him going forward.

Even before his great 2020, he was a 1.5-2.0 WAR player. Not what any of us hoped, given his 1-1 status, anchoring as he did the return-for-the-Heyward-return; but also—especially at his price—more-than-cromulent, and definitely well above the "overall [...] sucks" territory that you ascribe—which, to be honest, is just a straight fact, despite your emotional dis-investments.

It's funny, because where you see an "extra credit" halo, I see the diametric opposite: I think, at least around these parts, he gets way more crap than he deserves precisely because he wasn't Jeter 2.0, after being selected 1-1 and wayyyyy oversold to the fans by the utterly-incompetent, three-John'd previous administration. In reality, 1.5-2.0 above-replacement per annum, at pre-arb and arb rates, is—again—entirely cromulent. And, personally—overall—I'm just entirely sick of the Swanson Discourse, because he is, to nearly a tee, the type of player that is wonderfully fine to have until they hit FA—like, that 10/10 nbd category of player, from whom you can always pay to upgrade, but with whom you can roll with an otherwise-well-stocked roster.

Plus: not that it matters, at this point, but I'd wayyyyy rather him on the team than vocal anti-vaxxer Andrelton, who—in my opinion—can **** entirely right off, at this point.

Please correct me if my figures are wrong.

Using MLB Splits Game logs, they sum the total ABs at 150 with sum of 51 Ks.

51 Ks divided by 150 ABs = .34%

So "doing fine" isn't exactly accurate. Pillar is a pretty tough dude. He knelt for a minute pouring blood onto the field, realized he was making a mess, so he stood up and walked off the field.

Acuna needs a stretcher to airlift him out if he rolls his ankle. What do you think Acuna does when he sees a spider? Screams, calls animal control, and burns down the house?

As a relatively consistent fence-sitter my issue isn't with Dansby, nor do I think Arcia is necessarily the answer to anything - other than "who's on fire that could probably help the big club right now?" My concern is that several buttons don't seem to be getting pushed as an effort to not step on toes.

Camargo has consistently proven useless at this level and isn't an option at SS. Dansby's making it look like Frenchy moved to SS and grew a beard. Snitker's so big on "playing the hot hand", so you call Arcia up and make Snit prove he'll do that - it's not like both guys can't take a few extra grounders at 2B and 3B during batting practice so they can be the utility IF on days they're not starting. Is AA afraid that Acuna and Albies are so *issed off about being underpaid that they'll quit and go home if you finally cut ties with Camargo or simply leave him in Gwinnett in case of an emergency?

While it's still way too early to panic, it's not too early to go to Snitker and tell him he's no longer in charge of the pen. He's not throwing the pitches but he IS the guy who keeps running the same guys out there in spots where they continue to struggle, and if he's not going to designate roles for the guys in the pen AA needs to do it for him. If any of the guys being used in the later innings struggles for a couple outings in a row you don't have to stop using them, but you have to stop using them in the 7th, 8th, and 9th. Somebody out there needs to step up or they need to try others to find someone who can - it really is that simple - and if those guys don't happen to be Smith, Minter, or Matzek, so be it.

He doesn’t make enough to burn down houses yet.
