119th Congress or Red Wave In Adult Land

Meanwhile, the reason that I know we’re still presently ****ed as a political movement is that every response to McBride’s speech, which did not mention gender once as far as I can recall, mentions the misgendering. I think McBride seems to understand that while discrimination against trans folks is something to fight against, she’s not going to gain much sympathy across the aisle as a victim when serving as one of only a few hundred people elected to Congress.

The best thing Elon can do is to use his podium to shame MAGA Mike into being a fiscal conservative for at least a day.

I'm actually a bit worried that Elon is going to start stepping on trumps plans regarding spending, and that will be the end of elon in this administration.

Trump wants to spend money. Elon wants to cut money. Headed for a collision on this one once we start getting into the real spending bills

It would be great if the Republicans walked the walk on cutting spending.

I have an optimistic scenario in mind where our fiscal house is put in order via a sort of Texas two-step. Republicans cut spending while having their turn in power. And Democrats raise taxes when they have their turn. Probably won't happen. But would be a good thang for the country.

Lwts see if Trump vetoes any spending bills this time

Hopefully elon has influenced him enough at thos point

Elon himself is promoting stimulus checks to the American people. Enjoy your culture war victories, actual spending reform likely remains off the table.

Yeah that's dumb.

But he's also made clear drastic spending cuts have to occur or we are finished

I frankly think this is accurate right now but a bit premature. We’re still pretty firmly in the “cut the spending Elon and Trump supporters disagree with” stage of cutting costs. A few programs are affecting that constituency, but not enough to reduce the outpouring of support for saving America or whatever. When you start getting into the kinds of costs that actually need to be cut to allow for massive tax cuts, services start getting shut off that help the lower and middle classes in a way that will be more broadly unpopular politically. I’m not sure Trump and Elon will follow through, and these DOGE dividends are a fun little precursor to how they might respond.

And again, I’m not going to take them to task for doing it really. I think there are much better ways to use money for helping citizens than handing out piles of money to the population, but it is better to me than policies that solely hurt poor people.

Reminder to my fiscally conservative friends. The last surplus occurred during the Clinton presidency after he raised taxes.

I'd settle for a Texas two-step to fiscal sanity: GOP cuts spending while in power and Dems raise taxes when they win.

I think if you get Community Noted this hard they shouldn’t let you delete it later and maybe someone gets to take your seat in Congress.
