2014 playoff watch

The TBS money allowed the braves to be in the top 5 in payroll, that's not the same as outspending 90% of teams by over 100 million every year. I don't mind if teams develop great players and spend a lot of money to keep them, what I do mind is the yankees throwing truck loads of money at other teams players. What big free agents did the braves ever sign before Selig stole TBS from us? Maddux? He was offered more by the yankees. Brian Jordan? Gallaraga? The braves developed quality players and spent to keep them. JS probably could have bought championships while under Turner because I recall Ted saying there was no budget when JS let Blauser leave/ripoff the cubs.

I personally find no joy from buying titles. If we spend 200 million to beat at 60 million payroll team that's not winning. Baseball is the only major American sport with no salary cap. That's on Bud. The yankees would be laughing stock of baseball if they ever had to compete on an even playing field. Their advantage is so great that not making the playoffs would be like Michael Jordan losing 1 on 1 to a 5 year old with down syndrome.

You conveniently ignore the fact that the Yankees developed some outstanding talent which was the core of their run. When they started buying other teams' players, as you put it, is when they stopped winning championships. 2009 not withstanding.

That's how many we had all of last year and seven more than all of '12.

And? The Braves have a poor offense and good pitching thus there will be a lot of low scoring and close games. Generally when a team is non around .500 in one run games it's due to luck and or bullpen.

It's a high number. That's my point. Isn't that worth mentioning in a thread about going for the playoffs?

It's only a high number because there has been a lot of 1 run games and on it's own is pointless. If the Braves were like 10-20 in 1 run games and you said that then you might have a point. The only thing this really shows is that our bullpen isn't as good as it has been the previous two years.
