2015 June Draft Results Thread

That's not a serious threat under the current system. First rounders never forego the signing bonuses with the off chance they improve their draft position in 3 years.

If the Braves want Allard signed then he is going to sign.

Sounded like Allard was ecstatic to be a Brave... I seriously doubt it will be a problem at all. I just hope we can sign some of these high upside 11+ rounders... Especially the offensive ones.

Terry Godwin, drafted a round after Neal, is also a football-first guy who will likely honor his football commitment to the University of Georgia.

Both these guys are really good football players. Godwin was a 5-star recruit as a multi-position athlete was ranked as the 10th best recruit regardless of position in the country at Rivals. Neal and was a 4-star recruit at wide receiver and ranked 31st nationally at the position at Rivals. My guess is they are both really fast.

In all seriousness baseball needs to make a big play at these guys with the consussion issues currently existing in football. Go get these kids and maybe offer to pay full ride 4 year scholarships. Baseball is missing in this situation. It's a win win. Worst case scenario these kids wind up with a chance to get a 4 year degree.

I think over the next couple of decades, football will become what boxing was in the 1930s through the 1960s. It's going to be a way for poor kids to make some money, but not be able to hold a spoon when they turn 50. Could mean a resurgence in youth baseball. Soccer and lacrosse are really picking up at the high school level already.

As for the draft overall, I think it's obvious that the brass thinks that pitching depth throughout the system is way too light. I thought they went a bit heavy and could have mixed in a few more hitters, but we must have led the major leagues in signing independent league guys and retreads from other systems over the past couple of years to fill out our minor league rotations.

Only other observation is that they are putting a ton of stock in Austin Riley. I thought Jahmai Jones was a better fit, but Riley's power potential appears to be a quality that Clark and company are betting on with Riley.
