2016 Draft Position

Whats your definition of "cant miss"? For my money there have only been 3 cant miss hitting prospects the last 10 years going into the draft and thats Harper, Heyward, and Pedro Alvarez.

Well I guess can't miss was a bad choice. How about good hitting players in this draft? Someone along the lines of a Markakis or Freeman type ability.

Unfortunately there are a lot of reasons to race to the bottom as far as record goes. Some being:

1. First year player draft. This is important in terms of position and pool total -pick at the top of each round AND have more money to spend.
2. Competitive balance picks. Not affected so much directly by record but indirectly by loss of revenue due to bad record.
3. International FA signing. Increase dollar pool by lower record. Even with the Braves reportedly preparing to blow past restrictions in the upcoming International FA signing period, a larger starting pool means less penalty tax which might mean another player or two gets signed.
4. Rule 5 position.
5. Current position with regards to waivers.

I am sure there are others but those leap to mind.

On the other hand, I can't really see ANY advantage at this point in the Braves finishing with the 11th or 12th best record as opposed to worst record. I guess argument could be made that finishing strong might spring board the team into 2016, but I just don't see that as valuable at this point since 2016 is almost surely another rebuilding year.

I can't really consider Heyward a 'can't miss' considering we got him at 14. And Pedro Alvarez did miss for the most part, so....

I would say purely as hitters, Bryant and Schwarber were both pretty can't-miss. Harper is about the only HS hitter in the past couple decades I would consider can't-miss. It's too early to tell if that type of guy will be available, though.

As much as I dislike the notion of losing or that our losses actually help us, -this is not easy for me to say- I hope we do lose the rest of the way.

How likely is a potential #1 pick? If not #1, top 3?

I would say the #1 pick is still highly unlikely, though possible. I think a top 3 pick is about 50/50, and I think there's a very good chance we have a top 5 pick.

Our out of division games should certainly help the cause. Outside of the Phillies and Marlins series, I don't see too many winnable games left.

I think we still play Tor, NYY, Stl, Nats 6 times, Mets 7 times.

Marlins/Phils will probably determine if we can jump either.

I don't see us having much trouble with the Phillies or Marlins this time around. We have a great chance of finishing first.

We've been on a fantastic run. 21 losses in the last 30 games, tied with the Reds for the best in baseball. We need to keep that up.

Very profitable night for us.

Nah, it was only one loss. We've got a whole month to suck.

We're up to it.

I think halfway through the dance, the fun girl who looked okay popped out of her corset and giant, enormous fat rolls came squirting out. Now she's riding around the grocery store on a Lark pulling pork rinds and pop tarts into her cart.

Look at the bright side…the Padres are paying for the Lark.

Hahahahahaha

Couple years ago I tore my plantar fascia and had surgery. So I'm wobbling around on crutches and go to Publix, and I really need the scooter. But there aren't any. So I grab a basket and do the best I can. And it's not very good, and I'm in some pain.

As I go through the aisles, I see one of the Larks, and there's a heavy-set woman who looks kind of like a bulldog - jowls and all - filling up the cart, and it's a bunch of processed food and ****. Two aisles later, see another one, it's a fat guy. I see him actually get up from the cart to pull something off a top shelf, then assumes his position back on the scooter. It compresses and lowers as he eases himself onto it, like one of those kneeling busses at the Dallas airport. I see a couple more, same deal. Fat people.

I think the Larks at Publix should be for the old or infirm. If you're just fat, well, just don't spend as much time in the grocery store. Go when you need to and stay the hell off the Larks.

I was speaking in terms of my opinion of the players going into the draft. I had a man crush on Heyward back when he was still a junior in high school. Its my understanding that the Braves were able to deflate his stock by not appearing interested in him. That combined with his refusal to swing at balls made other teams weary of him. I think a Braves scout went as far as to hide in the bushes while scouting him so other teams scouts wouldnt know he was there. If we had the #1 overall pick I would have taken Heyward and so would the Braves. Heyward was predicted to go top 3 I believe and no one thought he would even get to the Braves. Bryant and Hosmer are two I think were close. You dont get drafted as high as Hosmer did as a pure 1B without being a cant miss bat. Schwarber I dont think was cant miss, he was ranked like 18th in his draft class. I know that sounds similar to the Heyward situation but no one would have been surprised if Heyward was drafted 4th, a lot of people were surprised Schwarber was taken 4th overall.

Reds just took the lead on Mil.

Would be .5 game back on them if it holds for 4th.

Thanks for the most disgusting post in weeks.

Looking safer and safer that Atlanta will pick in the top 7. The last 12 games vs. MIA and PHI will determine Atlanta picking 6 or 7 or them picking 2 or 3.

This team reminds me of the girl at the dance who maybe is not the most popular but the one who ends up being the most special. Or something like that. At a minimum it certainly is palatable and plays the game the right way.
