2016 Postseason Thread

good night sweet Cubbies.. maybe your offense will bust out of its slump tomorrow.

have I mentioned that I am really glad the Braves are stocking up on pitching both starters and relievers!!!!

I felt like this was a game Cleveland had to have, as in my opinion, the pitching matchups favor the Cubs the next two games. Indians pitching was very impressive tonight. Only down side was how long Miller worked tonight.

Man, I did not expect Cleveland to completely dominate the game. Good for them! Like I said, I still think the Cubs take the series, but I'm pulling for Cleveland.

Yep, now they have to play the Cubs without Kluber and possible Miller (are they really going to throw him)? To add to that, the idiot Francona through Allen in a 6 run game. Maybe that doesn't come back to haunt him, but if it does, it was a really pointless move. The Indians won the game they absolutely had to have and had the most favorable matchups they will have. The Cubs will be huge favorites in the next 2 games so they are going to have to win at least 1 of them.

In my view:

Game 1- 50/50; maybe slight Indians favorite with Kluber/Miller and at home.
Game 2- Cubs pretty big favorite
Game 3- Cubs huge favorite
Game-4- 50/50
Game 5- Cubs huge favorite
Game 6- Cubs huge favorite
Game 7- Indians favorite

The Indians can hang on if they win the 50/50 games and still 1 despite Bauer or Tomlin starting.

Francona an idiot? Lulz. If anything, it was a brilliant move to knock the rust off Allen after almost a week without playing with a lead that big so that if they need him tonight in a tighter game, he's ready to go. But sure, it's pointless. Allen has thrown 8.2 IP in the last 20 days. He's fine.

He also set Kluber up to be ready for Game 4. The only question is whether or not Miller threw too many pitches, but we'll see about that.

Francona is, IMO, the best manager in the game. This playoffs has only strengthened that opinion.

Also, Salazar could be a wildcard for them that could really help even out the pitching disparity in non-Kluber starts.

I think Francona had his mind set for a KK, Miller, Allen Game 1. expose his 3 best pitchers to the series and knock the rust off. Allen will be fine, he did not throw a ton of pitches last night. I bet Miller could go an inning if needed tonight. I think Salazar will relieve Bauer tonight and get it to the 8th where it will go Miller/Allen... this is dependent on the score of course..

I also think Francona is one of the good ones. I am kinda tired of Fox showing Maddon all the time, like he is some mad scientist pushing buttons and willing his team to wins.. It was dumb to start Craplin over Heywood, regardless of how much he has struggled.

I don't believe in "knocking the rust off." He hasn't been sitting on the couch for 3 weeks. There is nothing to suggest "rust" is real. SHould Salazar have knocked the "rust" off last night?

Managers have tough jobs (particularly NL ones). Francona probably does look good compared to a lot of them. But, then again, so does Joe Maddon, who decided last night to let David Ross stay in to face Miller when he had Soler on the bench.

The only thing I question is Andrew Miller, especially with a decent lead. Aside from that, I think he's done an excellent job.

who cares if you think rust is real.. exposing your 3 best pitchers to an environment they have never been in after 5 days off was a good decision. During the game, I questioned using Allen, but now agree to the strategy. You play your best players and let them rest the next 6 months.

There is evidence to support the idea that a pitcher's breaking ball does not move as much with multiple days of rest as it does on back-to-back days or even with just one day of rest.

I think Francona is much better than Maddon. Maddon overmanages, he just does so in weird ways and has an interesting personality, so people think he's a genius. I do think he's good in the clubhouse, though. But Francona, IMO, is the best clubhouse manager in baseball and also is pretty advanced in the way he makes decisions.

Whether he was right or wrong, it's open for discussion. But saying "let them rest for the next 6 months" really doesn't fly if you need them for a big moment during this series and they are fatigued/ineffective because of heavy recent workload. It might not be an issue for game 2 or 3, but keep leaning on them when they aren't needed and it can make a manager look really dumb if games 4-7 are all close games in the later innings. But my main reason for replying was because of your let them rest for 6 months comment.

I think Terry is going to ask Bauer to give him 4 to 5 max effort innings and then Salazar 2-3 max effort innings, then hand it over to Miller/Allen...
