2016 Presidential Primaries [ SUPER TUESDAY | 3-1-'16]

Even with sanders trying to make something of this

It's trump vs Clinton

Let's draw the battle lines

At this point, I'm going to just put my feet up and enjoy the show. Trump v Clinton - good job, America.

I really don't think it's over on either side yet. Let me re-phrase that. There's going to be a blood bath on both sides before this is over. I think Clinton emerges on the Democratic side, but I don't see Sanders really extending much of an olive branch her way so the rhetoric is going to continue there.

On the Republican side, I think Rubio stays around until Florida. If he loses there, it probably means Trump will seal the deal. I don't know what the Republican establishment does. Lindsay Graham comes across like everyone's least favorite Sunday School teacher, but he was awesome on CBS last night. The Republican establishment put all its eggs in the Jeb! basket and his miserable performance should have told them something after it became official in Iowa. We may have a contested convention. I don't believe the Republicans have super-delegates like the Democrats, and if they don't, I bet the establishment will think about them very seriously for the next round.

Yeah, I just can't see the GOP establishment handing this thing over. At least many will not participate in what amounts to a four-day parade for Trump this summer.

They can fight, but Trump still has his "I'll run as an Independent" card in his pocket. I think he has the GOP by the nuts.

Lindsey Graham is an interesting guy. If he were six inches taller, married, and from somewhere other than SC, he'd be a legitimate candidate for national office. I certainly have my disagreements with him, but he's quick-witted and substantive and projects a little more humanity than so many of his colleagues.

I'm not sure what the R establishment is going to do, either (other than change the rules after this cycle, as you suggest). Pray for Rubio to win Florida and write checks to that end, I suppose. Or pray for the FBI investigation to put enough stink on Hillary to sink her. I think the talk of a brokered convention is fantasy. They're stuck between blowing up their base by undercutting a clear frontrunner (the convention scenario)and opening the door to a third-party run, or watching moderates and independents break for Hillary while Trump drags down their whole ticket.

Oh he definitely does, but doing that only confirms him as the fraud that he is.
I don't think he's a fraud but he is the guy who will kick the board over at the end of the game rather than admit defeat. Meaning if the GOP could figure out a way to beat him at the convention (Don't think they can.), he will throw a tantrum and go for revenge by running as an Independent.

But that's not gonna happen. Trump is the nominee if he's still breathing.

That's kind of been my take all along, especially as he picked up steam. He really has them over a barrel now, but only to some extent. A Trump third party run probably puts Hillary in the White House, but it would also bring a batch of folks to the polls who would likely vote for conservative congressional candidates and maintain Senate control for the GOP. I don't see the House of Representatives going back to the Dems in my lifetime (I'm 58 and very healthy).

I've gone back-and-forth on Lindsay Graham over the years. I found him thoughtful during the Clinton impeachment hearings initially, but then he turned around and becomes a fire-breather within a space of weeks. He's kind of the same way with his foreign policy stance in that he lays it out logically and then basically says "What the heck, let's bomb them back to the Stone Age." I have never doubted his intelligence or sincerity, but like so many, he's got a missing piece (or three) that puts a ceiling on his career.

That's a good take on Graham, I think. You've gone back-and-forth because, frankly, he goes back-and-forth. Nobody, except maybe his surrogate dad John McCain, loves the camera as much as he does. Whenever I find myself taking a step toward him, his hawkishness drives me away. Still, compared to the Republican presidential field, he often seems like a beacon of sanity. Even on the Supreme Court issue, he's at least admitting that it's a political calculation and not some grand stand on principle.
