2016 Presidential Primaries [ SUPER TUESDAY | 3-1-'16]

I still think the GOP's master plan all along was to bring in as many fringe candidates as possible like Trump, Santorum, Cruz into the mix when they know they have no shot of winning, to make Jeb or Rubio appear moderate and electable. Jeb will be a dissenting voice on a debate stage with a bunch of hooligans repeating the same talking points from 2008 and 2012 that lost them those elections. He will look much better than the rest of the crowd.

With Dubya's approval rating magically rising the last few years out of office, it would mean the electorate would be more accepting of a 3rd Bush in the White House.

It's also a win win for the Trumps, Cruz's, etc. They can raise money, and build up their brands just like Herman Cain did.

It's creative accounting

I get it that they're deficits... but how is someone claiming budget responsibility while running half trillion deficits?

Also - taxes have gone up and the Iraq war was a sliver of what it was... It's pretty obvious why the deficit is smaller.

The national debt is bigger than ever though

Ron Paul was consistently up in the polls in the first few states until the primaries were proven to be rigged and fraudulent

i could see that happening in right wing primaries since they court the religious crazies that have no business in our govt

The problem with that is a crazy ass like Trump will push out someone like Kasich who's been around a while and can put together a solid argument from the debate stage. Many of my Republican friends have said running the moderate candidate did them no good the last two elections. I'd say it's more the "moderate" candidates were trying to talk like right-wing, arch-conservatives and clearly uncomfortable doing it, especially in Romney's case. Either run a moderate that sticks to his guns or a conservative who can articulate the ideals very well and not say idiotic **** as has been the case many times.

As for the other side, I don't want to hear anyone bitch about another Bush without also mentioning another Clinton. I have no intention of voting for either, but I'm not so sure Jeb gets the nod anyway. I think Rubio is gonna stay in it for a while, and Walker, if he gets in, will likely be a hit with most of the party.

In regard to Bernie, agree with him or not, I think he's tapping into some real anger among a lot of people that has been bubbling under the surface for a while. Would like to have seen him run as an independent candidate, though.

I think Rubio and Jeb will avoid each other, similar to Romney and Ron Paul avoiding each other.

As to your comment about moderate nominees talking like far right the last few elections, I think the GOP realizes they can't win that way anymore... so bring back the same clowns and have Jeb sound like a dissenting "progressive" voice for the party, to reach centrist voters.

Romney was by all standards a moderate guy, that was forced to move right when the base demanded it. It hurt him in the general IMO. McCain was kind of in the wrong place at the wrong time. After the Financial Disaster, there really was no way another Republican was going to get elected.

We live in a country where increasing spending at a decreasing rate is passed off as a draconian spending cut.

This always cracked me up. Only the idiots in this country could be sold that the the budget not rising as fast as they want it to, is considered a budget cut

I really wish Paul Ryan would run. He would be my top choice. Pretty impressive that he chose not to run because he wanted to concentrate on his anti poverty initiative. I think he has a chance to become the next great president. But obviously a lot of things would need to happen to even get him in office.

Kasich is an interesting name because he can connect with the average American. But he can come across a bit aggressive and nonpresidential at times.

Jeb is just bland. I just am not sure Americans are ready to pull the trigger on another Bush. But obviously he'll have the money.

Rubio has a real chance. He's very articulate.

I just don't think Rand Paul can pull it off. But he'll be interesting to watch in the debates. He's articulate but not sure if a majority of Americans are ready to step into the realm of libertarianism.

Trump has an authoritative/presidential presence, but at the same time he also is seen as a bit of a clown. Which may seem like an oxy moron, but if you think about it I think it's a good description.

I like Carson, but not as President. I just don't think he has the political game to be a factor.

Christie won't get out of the primary and likely has some skeletons in his closet.

Ted Cruz will be fun to listen to in the debates and is very articulate. But he's been labeled as an extremist by the media and that's hard to overcome.

Fiorina has no experience as a politician. I just don't see that working out

Huckabee is a great talker but to me lacks an authoritative/presidential appearance.

Nobody is giving Jindal a chance, but I think he's a competitor. Smart guy who is experienced. Is America ready to vote for an Indian American?

Perry has a lot to overcome, but I think he can be a contender just because he looks presidential and communicates well.

Walker has to shake off the extremism vibe as well. But he's very accomplished.

Really strong list of candidates this year. I think someone will rise to the top and give the liberals a real challenge in 16.

I think that's a pretty good summary, weso.

Because I'm a glutton for punishment, I actually watched about 25-35 minutes of Trump on Hannity. Lulz for days.

BTW, between his fondness for single-payer HC, tariffs on imports, and a massive tax increase on the super wealthy, I'm not sure he is running in the right primary. Not to mention he's donated more money to Dems than Reps over the years (at least as of 2011)...including $200k to the Clinton Foundation.

Since I personally met Walker and Ryan, Walker? LMAO, he is a politician and not too bright, Ryan is good, real good. Dude can sell like no other. When he talks you are glued, when Walker talked we wanted to go to sleep. Too many canned responses. Ryan spoke off the cuff.
