2017 Opening Day Roster Taking Shape

Who's playing first base when Freeman needs an off day? And who's playing first base if Freeman has to do a 15 day DL stint? Rodriguez was the only one capable that I see on the roster.

That's a good question. The only one I can think of who has played any 1B is Markakis. Maybe they give Adonis some time there as a fall back option

I think it is becoming apparent to the Braves that Fried is one of the 10 best pitchers in camp. Guessing he'll be in Mississippi regardless, but he is old enough to be bumped past Gwinnett if he delivers..

I think so too, but I think we will not see him in Atlanta until 2018, primarily because others will get first shot. I think first call up will be Blair. I think Newcomb is going to show very well and be a trade deadline type replacement. Don't look now, but Sims is throwing strikes. Wisler will likely get 1 last try as well.

Are there any other teams still expressing interest in Pagan at this point? More playing footsie with Kelly though.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Matt Szczur is among the trade candidates the Braves are considering as they look for an extra outfielder.

Szczur is out of options this spring, so Rosenthal notes that the Cubs are expected to keep him rather than lose him on waivers, but the Braves might be able to make an attractive offer. The 27-year-old hits from the right side of the plate and has experience at all three outfield positions

I remember this kid playing football and being the no doubt best all around athlete on the field. Couldn't believe he was talented enough to go pro in baseball.
