2018 Braves Spring Training Thread

Reminds me of last year when skinny Kemp got off to a great start then hurt his leg and put on 50 lbs (actual number according to DOB) over the summer.

How does someone put on 50 lbs in a few months?

That is an insane amount of food to eat coupled with an almost completely sedentary lifestyle.

He's noticeably much smaller than last year.

From Mark Bradley:

“I mentioned afterward to a Braves employee that Kemp appeared to have gained 30 pounds during the season. (He’d come to camp proclaiming that he’d dropped 15 over the winter, and he did have a pretty good first half.) The Braves man said: “More like 50 for me.”“

Kemp is obviously a southerner, right?

That’s just a ridiculous amount of weight to gain so quickly. I understand Kemp is a large man even when fit, but there are practical limits to how much fat a human can accumulate.

He would have had to put on 10+ lbs per month while playing baseball for 3 hours per day, plus whatever prep time. That’s not exactly swimming laps to burn calories, but it’s not sedentary either.
