2018 Offseason And Targets

Peralta is exactly who I have hoped for since you suggested him a while back. I think we would be better off spending prospects for Peralta and money for Grandal, instead of money for Brantley and prospects for Realmuto.
yeah...I agree that the Peralta/Grandal combo is more appealing than the Brantley/Reamulto combo, unless something unusual happens to the asking prices

If the Marlins target rebuild is 4 years, why would they want Soroka/Riley who could both be MLB next year?

Anderson/Pache seems much more likely to be desirable for the Marlins.

I prefer a Wentz/Wilson/Water type trade.

We do have to address a variety of needs this off-season. I would target someone on a lower salary such as Walker, Lamb, Dietrich, Solarte or Cabrera.

My comfort with that number is contingent on us addressing C, cOF, and bench as out major resource spends. I think we can pull that off comfortably. But if we try to get an above average starter or bullpen guy, then that changes the formula for me. In that case, yeah Dietrich, Lamb, Walker would make more sense.

This seems so obvious to me. That the catcher free agent market is more appealing than the outfield market, and vice versa on the trade market. Another bonus is that I expect Peralta/Grandal to cost less in terms of $$$ and prospects. Seems like that direction is a no-brainer if we can get Grandal and the D-Backs on board.

One consideration is the Peralta/Grandal pair would cost us our second round draft pick as well.

I think there’s a good chance we avoid anyone with a QO. We’re pretty thin in the lower minors and with the international restrictions we need to stockpile with this draft.

I'm as big a "homer" as exists, and am one of the select few who wouldn't mind spending on the back-end, but I'm not sure I even want any piece of Kimbrel given the fact he comes with the QO attached. Even if he was willing to give you a hometown discount to finish things up (let's dream that he'd take the same deal Britton or others are projected to get to come "home"), do you really want to give up a pick to get him considering our International penalties are about to kick in?

I realize they're not Craig, but is he really going to be THAT much better than Britton, Familia, Allen, Herrera, Miller, or Ottavino over the next 3 years?

(Especially when we've got all the SPs that could become really good back-end pieces AND Minter who likely just needs to be shown some faith.)

Yeah we need all our draft picks possible and given we're probably gonna be making some trades this winter and midseason by the trade deadline next year. It would be unwise to give Kimbrel the contract he's after.

And while Kimbrel is probably better than those, i'm not sure he's worth a pick and the money he'll be getting.

This is my opinion also. Didn't Brantley and Markakis have similar years last year? I was hoping for a lineup upgrade there.

Who exactly is available in trade for COF'ers?

Marte, maybe Peralta, Hanigan would cost the farm.

Brantley, trading for Realmuto pending cost, would be best bet to replace Nick and Zuk.

Marte, Peralta, Haniger > Brantley, Pollock.
Realmuto is also going to cost a lot in prospect capital.
All of the trade candidate OFers give you more certainty than Brantley or Pollock.

We cant be giving picks away given our international penalties.

You say Haniger and then say Realmuto will cost alot in prospect capital. Haniger would cost more than Realmuto, so i dont get that. And we're gonna have to trade some of these guys eventually whether people want to or not.

I know Riley has been brought up at 3b, but any chance he could just play 3B\LF for us after a few months in the minors? Could he come up and produce at an acceptable level for us at some point in 19?

I mean, our rookies have traditionally done well upon their call up (I don't think Riley acclimates quickly to his promotions though).

I am all for making a corner OF signing, but may refrain from anyone with a QO attached since we could have some internal relief.

Me thinks Riley is trade bait.

they will both cost a lot is my point. haniger is far better than the FA OF options. realmuto is not far better than the FA C options, tho.

Realmuto with a rip job to right center this morning in Japan. Auditioning for Acuna over there.

Soto bounced a popup off the roof.

Wut, Realmuto is a top 2-3 catcher in baseball lol. Grandal would also cost a pick and will have an assload of suitors.

Haniger is better than the FA OF'ers not named Harper but is he even available? I'd trade for Haniger over JT if it was one or the other but Brantley and JT would be a good way to start the winter.

I’m in the camp that believes we won’t sign anyone with a QO attatched to them. With us being competitive and getting worse picks from here on and the international restrictions we have to keep the picks we have to restock. Realmuto for say Wright and Riley and then say Newcomb for Peralta and resign Anibal for a year. We should have plenty for a bench piece and a bullpen arm.
