If Kimbrel took a discount to come home and with AA saying he wants a closer then I wouldn’t rule anything out, especially if we got Realmuto and his cheap salary and if he can get a young cost controlled outfielder.

I don't get it, have people just completely ignored how Kimbrel has trended? He is not the guy we remember... velocity is down, has struggled mightily recently... and we're talking likey 17 million a year? I don't want to pay him 10 million a year... would be a terrible idea... would have to be like a world record hometown discount which... no

Yankees bringing back CC for $8M. Its a good piece of business for the Yankees. CC has been a steady 2-3 WAR player the last three years. When a team can sign a player on a below-market one year deal like that it has to. It allows a reallocation of resources to other areas.

seems to me it would be more wise to use the trade chips for a cOF and cash on one of the FA catchers. I like the cOF trade options a lot more than I like the cOF FA options, and there are more FA options at catcher than there are trade candidates at catcher.

Look at what is already happening with Jansen after the Dodgers gave him a ton of money.

Just say no to signing BP arms to long expensive deals. The Braves have several young arms that can and will be moved to the BP as they fail in the rotation.

I wouldn’t mind a Riley/Wright trade for JT. Thing is, we have to deal quality. We can always get a 3B if Camargo falls off and we have lots of pitching. Hope it happens quickly so we can continue to tweak the team.

As nice as it would be to add a healthy Donaldson to the mix, it's just tough to see it happening.

IF (big if) Riley were included in a Realmuto or TOR arm deal, that just strikes me as a sign that Camargo showed AA and his lieutenants enough in 2018 for them to commit to him as the 3B moving forward. If they're serious about trying to plug all the holes (varying levels of need of course), spending $15+ million on two of those spots just won't do it.

Say you spend ~ $35 million on Donaldson and Brantley/McCutchen and trade Riley in a Realmuto deal. That eats up every bit of the salary flexibility we realistically think they have. I don't look at that as a "bad idea", because while it should provide pretty significant upgrades offensively, you can argue that all three moves are lateral (at best) defensively. That's OK with me since I still think that group would be fine on defense overall. But it also requires AA to count on a bounce back from Duvall OR find an inexpensive replacement for him. That's not "terrible" IMO either.

The problem is that it leaves you with no money to upgrade the pen at all - which needs upgraded as much as (if not more than) the other holes - until at least the deadline. It also leaves you with no flexibility to add that TOR arm IF you decide you wanted to. Maybe that's the plan - lots of contenders leave upgrading their pen as the last thing to do, and they prefer to do it by picking up the hottest current RPs during that particular season. The only problem there is that when you do that, you've entered what always seems to be the hottest deadline market AND have no choice but to pay the contender's premium for the least valuable long-term players. I'd certainly hope - and not hope - the situation the Cubs were in wouldn't arise here, but don't forget they gave up 6 years of Gleyber for 2 months of Chapman and ONE ring. Would anyone feel comfortable giving up Pache for a Closer in July if that's what it took to get the Closer you need? I think I'd do it (while kicking and screaming to high heaven) if everybody was healthy and a shutdown guy looked like he could put us over the top because I'm a "flags over prospects" guy, but I'd probably start having buyers' remorse around the middle of next season even if that flag was flying at SunTrust.

Too many internal and possibly deadline options for 3b to drop well over 20 million on Donaldson. Riley\Camargo being two main sticking points, but others will likely present themselves at the deadline just like this year.

With Kimbrel, its fans being nostalgic more than diving into the performance I believe
