2018 Offseason And Targets

I've thought about Hedges as well if they plan on Mejia sticking at catcher. Love the pitch framing and defense.... worried by the bat.

Depending on upgrades made elsewhere on the team I might prefer Hedges to Realmuto.

If he could just stay healthy, AA could probably get Hedges as part of a deal for Myers since they want out from under that contract so badly. Just don't think he'll ever be healthy enough to be worth 2/3 of what he gets paid after 2019 though.

FWIW, adding the two of them leaves you around $35 million for bench and pen upgrades this year though, so AA could add Gonzalez and Britton and still have money available if he actually did go after an Ace. With Julio, O'Day, and Vizcaino coming off the books following this season, that money would more than cover Myers salary when it goes up next year.

One angle we haven't really looked at is "Where are they going to hit Acuna going forward?".

Say Snit moves him down to hit behind Freddie and goes back to the pesky speed guys at the top in front of them. Might a big deal for Schwarber then make sense even with his defense? A Freeman/Acuna/Schwarber middle of the lineup would measure up to the heart of anyone's order, and you'd have whatever Catcher you signed and Camargo to follow them.

If you could put up with Schwarber's defense in LF, you'd have the money to sign Grandal, a really good bench piece, and whatever Closer he wants. You'd suddenly have an AL-type offense, especially if you kept Duvall as the bench OF and added Gonzalez' bat as your super-sub.

Did you guys see the reddit post about the Pads... https://www.reddit.com/r/Braves/comments/9x3rj2/bold_predictions_offseason_move_that_no_one_is/

It was the most intelligent thing I think I have read over there. It made me think about how we match up with the Friars. They will have to dump guys or trade guys. Hedges was intriguing..

maybe some of you nerds want to play Friars GM. Oh and if you Mississippi folks want to join in, the stats on tape is over next to "how to court your mom", "home dentistry", and "10 reasons you don't run your Saturn on backyard moonshine...on tape"...

They may have a lot of players, but none of them are very good. The Braves need to aim higher.

The only Padre projected for 2+ wins next year is Margot...who they got in exchange for Kimbrel.

...huh?

Hedges has a career OBP of .258.

If that's the answer AA comes up with...he failed.

To elaborate if we use prospect capital to make a big improvement in the OF, say for Haniger, and then make a smaller trade for Hedges, I might prefer that to say Realmuto and Brantley.

Not a big enough track record for me to make a determination on hedges. He improved from last year which was his only full season. Plus only being 25 you could see some improvement as his prime years roll in. I think he is a less risky investment. But also agree I would prefer Ramos/ JT/ or YG.

Braves should acquire Hedges and talk Kris Benson into making a comeback. They could have a battery of Benson & Hedges. Smokin'!

i think he's probably too much of a question mark for this team.
i'd still be interested in renfroe tho.

The Padres can keep Renfroe and his .296 career OBP. In fact, they can keep all their crappy players.

The Braves need to aim higher...much higher.
