For the same reason Newk was going to improve his control at age 25 because Randy Johnson improved his control later in his career.

For the same reason Allard could be a good pitcher because Glavine didn't throw hard and was good.

That reason: many posters are very stupid.

1) 3 gotcha quotes in your sig max. Or you use smallest font possible to prevent page from stretching so much.

2) Getting kind of boring seeing you keep calling the same people stupid. I'm going to ask from this point forward in the year if you're going to insult the same people over and over it has to be unique and creative each time you do so. Make it feel brand new everytime. Or 3 strikes and a ban for repetition.

You're allowed to use the same line every 3 weeks. So if I see the Dee Gordon for Albies thing over and over that's a strike and ban.

Seems fair

Is there a way to censor the names Bumgarner and Verlander, Lord Fredi? :FrediPuzzled:

I find him annoying on occasion but I have to admit that I find it amusing that I live in someone's mind like I do.

Latest blurb from MLBTR:

“Even as they look for a deal to send out starter Sonny Gray, the Yankees are seeking another rotation asset, according to Jon Heyman of Fancred (Twitter link). It stands to reason that such a player would be a depth piece, whether a veteran on a minor-league deal or an optionable hurler acquired via trade, or perhaps a swingman type who’d initially work out of the bullpen. ”

The Braves have about a dozen of those pitchers. The Yankees and Braves line up so perfectly in a Gray and/or Frazier swap it’s ridiculous...especially if the Braves use someone like Newk to get someone like JTR or Peralta.

So, are we happy with adding Gray, Frazier and JT and losing, say...Teheran, Riley, Gohara, Wright, Fried and Fowler?

Who's Fowler? I don't see us losing all those guys. I think you're looking at losing Riley, possibly Newcomb, Anderson, and one of Gohara/Fried plus other secondary pieces. Don't think Wright gets dealt at this point. And Teheran will likely be sent somewhere for a bag of doughnuts. We would get more than Gray, Frazier and JTR though, I'm assuming we would still try and sign Pollock and use Frazier as a developmental insurance option. But trades and clearing of money would have to happen first and I think that's why we are at a stalemate... we can't go forward with the rest of the plan until we know for sure what resources we have and one big trade to fill an obvious need would pretty clearly need to be the first domino to fall.

Bumgarner's velocity is more or less where it was in 2016.

Last season, his stuff wasn't moving as much as it used to.

Possibly having a broken hand/finger (whatever) had something to do with that.

I find it somewhat easier to believe that a 29 year old will pitch better once he doesn't have an injury to his pitching hand than a 34 year old would recover 2 mph of velocity without surgery.

Either way, nearly everyone is correct. The Braves shouldn't pay a ton for MB and the Giants probably can't move him this offseason for his real trade value.

Personally, I think if he can be had for his true surplus value it's a good deal. There is a lot of upside there and it's perhaps an opportunity to get another pick if he performs and is in a position to turn down a QO.

If they can't get him for a small amount, I'm not too worried about it. But I prefer him to someone like Gray by a long shot and it seems to me is reasonable costs and whatever the Yankees are asking for Gray must be pretty similar.

Yep.

I can’t remember an off-season this slow in a long time with this many big FA left unsigned. How many weeks to ST?

It's crazy. We haven't even traded for or traded away a middle reliver or bench player. I feel like there will be a flurry of moves once the damn breaks.

It's becoming more and more like the stock market, which I guess makes sense due to the ivy league presence in front offices.
