2018 Offseason And Targets

Asdrubal just signed for 1 year at less than $5M. I can't imagine Markakis will command more than that.

I've thought for a long while he'll end up singing for something way south of 10m.

Honestly, at that price I would be in favor of bringing him back.

Would you rather have 1 year of Duvall at $2.875m or 1 year of Cabrera at 1 year $3.5m?

Even though we have Culberson and Camargo, I think i'd take Cabrera at the $3.5m

I wonder if Muk and his agent understand valuation. If the can look past the gold glove and being an all-star.

Can anyone honestly make the argument that adding Asdrubal for $3.5 to upgrade the bench and playing Camargo in LF full time wouldn't make this team better than using Camargo as the bench piece and bringing Markakis back to be the starting RF???

Beginning to feel like those who think a Markakis return is imminent - and also that it will make this offseason an epic fail on AA's part.

Dude how do you have this weird knack for latching on to awful additions and thinking that they would be a good add? Weren't you the one saying that Cargo would be an "AA" kind of move and now Parra would be. I mean, these are guys that have been borderline unplayable for a few years now. They have no business starting on a team that is contending for a playoff spot.

Yes, I'd take either starting over Duvall (Parra if someone twisted my arm into a decision) especially if we also trade for JTR. I'm more of an old school eye test guy but I also believe Parra can get back in the 2.0 WAR neighborhood from a few seasons ago.

AA been telling the braves beat writers it seems like he may go into spring training without a fill in the outfield, but expects to have made a move before opening day....

He is really starting to piss me off....maybe Gohara/Soroka/Touki/Wright/ etc. can play outfield?

I don't Gohara could.

Sign Cabrera and trade camargo for outfielder

The not looking for an OF stuff came from Chip saying "Adam Duvall I guess would be the man as things stand right now" in this tweet. It's nothing to get all fussed over.

Then why didn't they sign Cabrera when he was available? Can't do that now.

Trading Camargo has to be the plan - Dansby, Camargo, and an arm for Haniger and sign Machado to play SS since we're the obvious mystery team. Mac was the obvious bench upgrade.

Well obviously I meant I wish we had.

Asdrubal for $3.5M is a great deal for the Rangers.

We've seen AA plop down huge cash for 3B to push Camargo to a utility role when the 3B/Util market was flush with options.

We've also seen AA try to play the value game in cOF when there were very few cOF options available.

Are the Braves going to be better off having spent $23M on JD at the expense of punting C and potentially cOF?

Or would they have been better focusing on cOF and C, and bargain shopping at 3B/Util with someone like Asdrubal or Mous?

Time will tell, but I think AA focused on JD a bit too hard a bit too early and we are seeing the "what if" scenarios playing out.

It's looking like AA could have gotten Grandal (3 wins plus elite framing), Brantley (2.5 wins) and Mous/Asdrubal (2 wins). Instead he got JD (4 wins), Mac (1 win) and quite possibly Markakis (1 win). AA still has time to fix cOF, but it appears he may have focused on the position where he could have gotten excellent value had he waited out the market a bit.

Looking at the defensive metrics on Asdrubal, there is a stark difference the past few years in the UZR metrics used in fWAR versus the DRS metrics used in bWAR. From what I've seen of him, I buy more into the DRS numbers that show him as a below average defender. I see him as more of a 1-2 WAR player. Even with that, still a solid value for TEX.

there is no way parra is returning anywhere close to 2 war
