Feels like a reliever to me, but I like him a lot.

He has pretty much pitched as well or better than literally everyone else in the system as a starter. He has exceeded expectations at every level, and has had no problem at all going deep into games and keeping his velo up. He was considered that out of college because of his lack of secondary pitches, but that isn’t the case anymore.

4 IP 1H 0 ER 5K....ERA in spring ball now 1.86. Better than Wright, Touki. No one mentions him as a option. Not anyone here, not the team. I just don’t get it.

Don't put too much stock in spring numbers. I think he's good enough to contribute at the major league level but he's not got the stuff of Wright or Touki.

Flat FA that plays closer to average than his plus velocity suggests. SL that sits right around average. Above average or better CH. Command that should be average or better.

That's the definition of a #4 SP. That's great, but guys like Soroka, Wright, Touki and Gohara when healthy have a much higher ceiling, so they get talked about more as a result.

Last news I can find is he started throwing again on Feb 28. That was almost 2 weeks ago.

Don’t worry though, “it’s just....”

i hadn’t even realized that much time has passed since that report.

if he’s out for the year i won’t be surprised

I’ve never seen Riley. I assume they can calculate bat spreed. They have those accelerometers they put on the knob.

He is still very young. He seems to be a guy that works hard and adjusts.

I just think he is a guy that has to slug 450 plus. I think 250 avg is expected. Maybe 325-350 obp. Got to slug 450.

Bold prediction: Acuna will be in the top 3 in MVP voting this year. He'll be 2nd in fWAR in the NL.

I sure hope your right.I believe he has to put up those type of numbers for us to be in the race all season.
While I think JD is a great pickup and a perfect compliment to FF and Acuna , I’ll believe he stays healthy for 125 plus games when I see it.

I think the command is the key for him. The 2-3 times I've seen him, he's had excellent command and pounds the strike zone, which is a recipe for success in the Majors. Reminds me a lot of Brad Penny or Josh Beckett overall, though I don't know how his pure stuff stacks up against them.
