I'm personally not a big Sam Freeman fan, but I did find this a bit surprising on a pure baseball level. Sadly enough, he is probably one of our 9 best RPs for opening day. This may be a hoarding move by AA that Freeman was complicit in. I believe Freeman has to accept the outright assignment in order for this move to go down. The Braves get to clear a 40-man spot, and Freeman gets his full arbitration salary instead of getting 45 days termination pay and a DFA. In addition to hoarding Freeman as quality depth, this also opens up a 40-man spot for Tomlin or someone else that comes available.

I wouldnt be against extending FF but would hope they can get a short-term extension for him, but that seems unlikely.
 
The Giants and Rangers discussed a Choo trade.

Going into the last year of his deal I think he makes around 20M? Being in the last year of the deal (aka not a long term commitment) would really appeal to AA I'd think.

Apparently the Rangers would have kicked in SIGNIFICANT cash to make the deal work.

Would he do as a one year stop gapper in LF should we pink slip Duvall? High OBP guy, could probably expect a upper 700 OPS with decent d?

Apparently he's as big (or bigger if that's actually possible) a defensive liability as Kemp.

The Giants are desperate enough for offense to play a DH in that huge OF - kinda doubt AA wants him in ours.

Choo is a LHH with massive traditional platoon splits, so why would acquiring him mean Duvall is out?

Along those lines, Brandon Guyer has just been cut loose. I expect to see him get 3-4 ST games with the Braves to see if he is the Duvall replacement.

Have no idea on his splits, and I’m thinking Duvall is cut regardless.
