2018 Trade Deadline ROSTERBATION

So now the rotation stands at...

Teheran
Folty
Newk
Gausman
Sanchez

In no particular order.....

Wonder if we move Sanchez out of the rotation into a long reliever role, and use Allard/Touki/Gohara in the rotation to finish up....suddenly becomes a decent staff

I don’t see any sense in doing that. Sanchez has been fine as a SP. If anything, put Allard/Touki/Gohara in the pen.

Philly and Arizona improved today too. If Ramos comes back mid-august strong that will help Philly as their catchers don't hit much. Loup is a lefty that could improve their pen too. Arizona pen has been weak and they improved it today as well.

Don't count out Pittsburgh. They and Oakland are the teams who have been playing really well.

ok...now it makes a little more sense...otherwise its an obscenely one-sided trade...its hard to value slot money, but i think as a rough rule 1M has about 6M or so of surplus value

But likely worth less than that, on the Braves side of the ledger, given restrictions; so a great job leveraging its value to other teams in trades.

Sold high on Zimmermann, which is smart; he’s actually the guy on whom I’m the highest, of that group, but he’s a senior-sign whose stuff may not be enough to carry him all the way. JCE is a guy I’ve thought made sense to sell high on to an AL club, given his glove questions.

I’m not huge on Gausman, but the cost is palatable.

- Thought Pittsburgh did well for Kela, but Archer for Meadows/Glasnow and PTBNL is a steep cost.
- Schoop for Ortiz, Villar and another player is also an overpay, and where are Moose, Shaw, and Schoop gonna play?
- DBacks did well improving their pen with Ziegler/Diekman.
- Phillies did well getting Ramos.
- Pham to the Rays is an interesting trade too, he was 11th in MVP voting last year.

I'm not a huge fan in Gausman, he should do better in the NL with a better defense behind him, but for that cost its kinda hard to complain about it. Zimmermann has been good, and JCE has good potential but none of them are worth getting mad about. Farm is still extremely deep for more trades and/or others to get called up in the forseeable future.

I've seen estimates anywhere from 2x to 5x.

The Os have suddenly made it a priority to acquire that pool money though, after not spending a dime on international players.

Baltimore is the rumored favorite for Victor Victor Mesa.

I would like to have seen us grab one more reliever but that need could potentially be met by bringing up Touki and pitching him out of the pen. That fastball/curve combo could be similar to Wainwright when he closed for the Cards.

There's also the waiver deadline too for IF/RP if AA still wants to address that.

The previous trade with the Os showed that they value international slot money. How much of that do we have left?

We also gave the O's 2.5 millions dollars of international bonus money.

Creminitly I didn't think it would be that much!

I love how well AA has used the international cap space that we aren't allowed to spend. And I hope some people in the MLB offices are seething about it.
