2018 Trade Deadline ROSTERBATION

I'd absolutely love to grab Murphy.

I'm not an idiot and know Murphy is an on base machine but he gets subbed out late in games now for Difo at 2B for defensive purposes, people went nuts when Freddie tried to play 3B well Murphy would make Freeman look like Arenado at the hot corner. I can't see (DRS) proponents getting behind him playing 3rd at all but I'd absolutely love Daniel Murphy as an option late in games vs. RHP off of the bench.

I'd absolutely love to grab Murphy.

Time line of recent events:

8/17 - Nats place Harper and Murphy on waivers.
8/18 - Braves dumped Whitley to open a slot on 40 man roster.
8/19 - Waiver period for Harper and Murphy closed.
8/20 - Braves dumped Bell to keep that 40 man roster slot open.
8/21 - 48 hour window to trade Harper/Murphy if claimed off waivers expires.

The fact the Braves decided to keep that 40 man slot open AFTER the waiver period for Murphy expired suggests they either won the claim, or he passed through waivers and the Braves are trying to trade for him. It's possible the Braves either claimed Murphy and are trying to work out a deal by some unknown time tomorrow, or Murphy passed through waivers and the Braves are trying to trade for him right now.

How bad would Murphy be defensively at 3B? He's a below average defender at 2B, so I doubt he's average at 3B. However, claiming something as preposterous as, "Murphy would make Freeman look like Arenado at the hot corner", is laughable.

If the Braves get Murphy expect to see him get the bulk of the PAs vs RHP. Whose PAs he takes is certainly open for debate, but the Braves aren't getting him to have 5-10 PAs per week off the bench.

Plus he'll make a hell of a DH in the World Series.

Murphy use to be better at third but hardly played there in NY because of Wright. He has never been good at second. But how good would he be at third now? That's the question.

It was a bit of an exaggeration but Murphy would be terrible at 3B at this point.

He has always been terrible at second, -15 DRS last year and -10 this year. He will be below average anywhere, even first base. Freeman actually had a good DRS at third last year but I don't expect we'd move him back just to make room for Murphy at first.

Did we claim him?

An unknown team has claimed Nationals second baseman Daniel Murphy on revocable trade waivers, per Joel Sherman of the New York Post. The identity of the claiming team is not known, though Sherman notes that the veteran did not make it to the Yankees on the wire.

Murphy was reportedly placed on waivers on Friday. That means the situation is likely still pending. The unidentified team would have been awarded the claim on Sunday, setting off a period of 48.5 hours during which that club and the Nationals will see if they can work something out.

I just hope it isn't the ****ing Phillies. They got first dibs. I'd actually find it hard to believe they'd even let him get to us, knowing we're looking for a left-handed bat and them needing more offense themselves.

Hopefully they didn't claim him because of the money still due combined with already spending on Bour.

If we can afford his contract he is someone I could see AA liking despite his defense, which isn't even good at second.

If we get him my guess is he plays third and Camargo plays short more and subs him out at third like we did in the outfield with Tucker, then Swanson in at short.
