2019 MLB Draft Thread

Shewmake at 21 is weird. Questions about him at shortstop. Not much power.

I can be positive about the Langeliers pick. This one sucks.

Line to line hitter, where have I heard that before? :eusa_dance: Best hitting SS in this years draft but may end up in CF, plenty of positional versatility, I love the pick!

Reasonable take after the Braves won the NL East, are 1 game off the division lead this year, and haven’t traded away a single prospect of note to accomplish it.

Lousy!!

His retort will be that something something...AA inherited a Ferrari...something something.

Really? I didn't realize they relied so heavily on analytics when scouting amateur talent.

I’m pretty sure the Astros have one of the smallest scouting organizations in baseball. They fired a lot of guys a few years back and completely restructured their department, IIRC.

Also didn't acquire any of them. About all you can say is he hasn't hurt the team. He's done very little that has helped.

They rely heavily on trackman data. Maybe the Braves know something others don’t.

AA is a lousy GM. Always has been.

Agreed, he got Acuna/Albies to sign for the next decade on team friendly deals. Team won the East last year, and he hasnt touched the farm in a big trade yet, he's an awful GM.

And signed their core two players to the two best contracts in baseball, which trumps anything that could happen in the draft in importance.

You say this as if this is a negative. Everyone wanted his head for not trading Riley + for JTR.

A lousy GM is that dude in NY.

If he dipped into the farm and traded guys at the height of their value I'd be impressed. He's done very little as the GM except establish financial flexibility. Now he's hired a complete idiot to run our drafts. Don't expect that pipeline of talent to continue.

I don’t like either pick all that much, but I like how we are committed to an analytics based draft approach. If you aren’t willing to trust your models enough to make decisions based off of them then what’s the point of having them?

Besides, the guys we pick were ballpark of where Klaw had them ranked on his big board so it’s not as if these guys are completely out of left field.

As I said in an earlier post, it must be a new kind of analytics, because I don't see either of these guys fitting what I would be consider the new thinking on scouting and player development. It's pretty simple to me; they've gone production over projection in the first round. Nothing real earth-shattering or cutting-edge about that.

Like trade Riley and a pitcher for 2 years of Realmuto?

I was for a trade, but trade who for who, exactly? You're an idiot.
