2019 MLB Draft Thread

Cody Milligan was a USM recruit and I'm pretty bummed about losing him. He was supposed to be a catcher for us with a BIG TIME bat at the collegiate level. Not sure if he'll translate to the pros or not.

I lived in Cottonwood, which is fifteen miles west of Sedona, on the other side of the valley, at the foot of Mingus Mountain. The Cottonwood–Clarkdale–Jerome amalgamation has some good gems, and is less busy / bourgeois California-tourist resorty than Sedona (but the topography of Sedona is unmatched).

Prescott’s a cool town, especially the outskirts (pronunciation shibboleth: it’s prés-cut not press-cót); I ****ing love Flagstaff (which twins with Missoula in some weird ways); Crown King is an awesome old mining outpost south of Prescott, nestled in the Bradshaw mountains, but well worth the two-hour drive on dirt roads; Pine/Strawberry, up on the Mogollon Rim, is also really nice for a day-trip into the ponderosa forests. If you’re headed in the latter direction, Petrified National Forest is pretty amazing (though the closest town, Holbrook, decidedly isn’t).

It’s the other end of the state, but Bisbee—in the south-eastern highlands—is really tremendous as well.

That's pronounced Moe-gee-un?

I feel like we took quite a few today.

Been in the car for a few hours and missed out on some stuff. Came back and first thing I saw was JP post the JuCo superhero stats. I like it. Hope I get to see him later this season.

Talking Chop was speculating that we drafted Philip specifically because we don't want to sign him so we can't get the 61st pick next year. That'd be pretty odd, but I think its pretty clear at this point that the Braves were not huge fans of this draft class.

Doesn’t really make sense to do that with a guy who was way over-drafted, since you have to offer at least 40% of slot. If that’s the plan, you’d draft Leiter or one of the other impossible signs, so I don’t buy it at all.

Yeah I agree... that's a bizarre reasoning

Not to mention if they didn’t want the pick then sign a Kimbrel and unload it on someone else, and strengthen your pen for the first 1/3 of the season. Not wanting the pick is some serious conspiracy suggestions. Doubt it’s true.

well signing kimbrel would’ve lost them the slot money which would foil that hypothetical plan.

Anybody want to do a quick day 2 analysis for us folks that don't follow this. A grade will do.
