2019 MLB Draft Thread

Gonna take a shot in the dark here and guess that most of those FV will change. Its outright ridiculous to use FV for prospects on the upper minors and draft picks. Also going to assume the Braves scouts dont agree on a lot of fangraphs rating. Why should teams even have scouts if fangraphs ratings are so great.

Spoken like someone who doesn’t understand the FV ratings at all.

The dilution of FV based on risk and proximity to the majors is well documented.

Rutschman appears to be separating himself as the clear #1, but there are 7 FV 50s and a 45+ trending up just below him...all position players. The 6-9 guys are all OFers. Here is FG's TLDR for each of the 4:

Carroll CF - Do-everything CF without prototypical size.

Greene RF - fits the mold of the classic power bat right fielder with an advanced hit tool, like Alex Kirilloff or Trevor Larnach in recent drafts.

Busch LF - Stiff but well-built, power-hitting corner outfielder.

Misner - Missed much of 2018 with nagging foot issue, sat out the summer so is being heavily scouted for the first time. Has 70-grade raw power, runs well for a corner fit, peripherals drastically improved compared to frosh season. Will play CF and 1B this spring but is likely a RF in pro ball.

Based on the tiny amount of info available right now, I like Greene and Misner at 9. Greene seems to be projected for a better bat, but Misner is closer and profiles to have more raw power.

Carter Stewart threw a gem on Thursday, striking out 15 and giving up 1 hit over 8 innings in a 4-0 win. 39 Ks, 7 BBs, 13 Hs in 27 IP for the season (5 starts).

Read a chat on FG saying that the stuff has regressed a bit since he was drafted and he’s not throwing as hard. Nothing major but quotes were ok not “glowing” as I’d have expected

i’m pretty sure we’d need stewart’s permission to draft him again. so that can be ruled out.

9 Atlanta Braves Josh Jung Texas Tech 3B 6'2" 215
Jung had a breakout season for Texas Tech in 2018, and should see his stock continue to rise. He has a good eye at the plate, walking more times than he struck out in 2018 (39 BB and 32 SO). Jung has the potential to hit for both average and power. He average to below average with the glove, but does have an above average arm.

from some website called mlbmockdraftexpress

Haven't heard this guy before. They also have our resident Southern Miss fan's boy Matt Wallner going 4th.

Stewart is pitching against inferior competition.

Folks keeping tabs on his stuff claim it hasn’t stayed where it was a year ago.

If Carter Stewart doesn't make it then I'm really going to need to rethink my evaluation process.

There are many reasons his stuff could be down early in the season. The 3rd hand reports I'm referencing could be wrong.

Who knows...it's too early to say.
