a fabulous name...

he's a shortstop that our scouts liked better than some of the more high profile guys...which is fine with me...by the second round draft boards will diverge a lot from team to team...sounds like he has a good chance to stick at short...plus he's young for his draft class...my favorite of the day 1 picks

I can't remember all the weird rules in MLB draft... isn't there some strategy about throwing big money to long shots after the 10th round?

You can roll over money that you saved in the first ten rounds for after the tenth round. I can't remember if a team has to expend a certain percentage of their pool for the first ten rounds before it can lump dollars on post-Round 10 selections.

we should be positioned to go over slot the next couple rounds...hoping we have the $$ to get some second round caliber guys the next couple rounds

That's right... we lost the slot money if we don't sign people in first 10 rounds... so you have to sign those.

So I know some teams have gone college seniors round 3-10 so they can throw big money at guys who are tough signs in round 11
