2019 Trade Deadline Thread:

Apparently Sherman predicts the Mets will trade Wheeler to the Braves, Brewers, Twins, or "someone not the Yankees."

Then John Harper speculates a Wheeler deal to the Braves could look like Allard and Wentz or Muller

I would take that deal in a heart beat.

That's it? This should be agreed upon today. lol

Thor is a legit 1/2, and would easily be the best pitcher in the Braves entire organization. If AA can figure out how to keep him healthy, unlike the Mets with arguably the worst medical staff in the game, he would be worth a significant price.

Having said that, I doubt Anderson plus Wright is even a top 5 offer if the Mets took bids on Thor.

What do you think the deal would look like?

I definitely like the idea of wheeler but hopefully we are careful about over paying for half a year pitcher. Sometimes you need to save those bullets for better trades.

Don't know if I'd call Allard/Wentz an overpay... don't see how that would hurt the current team or future team even if one figures it out and becomes a solid 3

I'm pretty high on Wheeler because I watched his finish to last season pretty closely and it was really, really good. He's essentially the same guy this year as last year everywhere but in the ERA.

I think he's probably the best obviously available pitcher on the market and I would guess that most front offices in contention are probably on the same page about that.

I'm not sure the least favorite arms in the org would get it done. Even so Allard and Wentz for a rental is pricy even though I don't really have much heartburn about moving either.

.....

I would guess that the Mets would rather not trade Syndergaard to the Braves, though I guess with his former agent running the show the outlook might be different from the norm. Owner might not have much of a different view though. Fans tend to get upset when their own former players dominate them.

I am not saying they are in our plans for the future. I am saying they may be better served in a different deal that has a more controlled player. Maybe not. But I think some should pause before taking out the trash. There may be someone else’s treasure that you didn’t know about. Allard is always a guy we need to trade. But maybe we should see how other team value him before just tossing him to whoever.

Man...it would be huge. Thor has 2.5 years left? Any team acquiring him has to be figuring their superior medical staff could squeeze 10+ wins out of him plus 2-3 playoff appearances in those 2.5 seasons. That’s ~$100M in surplus value?

A “fair” deal is probably a 60/65 plus another good piece. Of course, trading Pache for Thor probably doesn’t make sense for a team with huge holes in the OF.

The only way a Thor trade makes sense is if the Mets love Riley or some similar overvaluation.

Damn. Makes complete sense, though. I love what Riley has done but I'd be all over a Riley+ trade for him.

Try to sell the Mets on a 1/2 punch of Riley/Alonso that is controllable for years and will produce ~70 homers a year by themselves. It may not be true, but the Mets are dumb. They'll believe us.

He's a bit of a joke... but:

I’d relinquish Allard for a Wheeler rental.

Somewhat tangential to the topic: I’d bet there’s added incentive for a guy like Wheeler to push for a trade with his team out of it, given that being traded mid-season abnegates the QO possibility—which, if the previous off-season is any indication, has a real effect on a pitcher’s market.

i’ve stannned Anderson forever but Wright plus Anderson for Thor is a no brained for me. which means it will certainly cost much more than that.
