2019 Trade Deadline Thread:

Nightengale: The Atlanta #Braves have been calling numerous teams in recent days in search of an outfielder after Nick Markakis suffered a broken left wrist that will sideline him at least until mid-September, and perhaps for the rest of the season.

First it was the Neck now the wrist....doesn’t have the same ring to it

Bob Nightengale reporting that GMs want the deadline pushed back to August 15th to allow more teams time to figure if they will be buyers or sellers. That is something that will be discussed this offseason at the GM meetings

Pretty funny - and whiny - when you think about that.

The deadline has always been July 31st. GMs had the August 31st deadline to trade if they played badly following the deadline and fell out of it to try to dump their bad contracts for 50 cents on the dollar if they wanted to clear the books. With all the new data they have access to, there's little reason they need more time than the way things are structured now. Zaidi already knows they're not running the table. So do the other GMs that are on the outside looking in. AA knows the Braves aren't getting by the Dodgers without significant upgrades.

*hit or get off the pot.

The Houston #Astros will come away with one more starter by Wednesday, and two GMs predict it will be Zack Wheeler from the #Mets

If the Mets get a 50 for Wheeler after giving up a couple of 45s for Stroman, we are not allowed to make fun of them until 2020.

It's really surprising to me that the Astros won't give up Whitley or Tucker for Thor. Miley doesn't seem particularly likely to continue his performance and Cole is a FA that they seem unlikely to re-sign. It would seem cashing in a prized prospect for a front line starter like Thor with 2 years of control matches up with their competitive window pretty nicely.

Do the Astros even have a 50? It seems like they have 3 55/60s in Alvarez, Tucker, and Whitley then a bunch of 45s. I guess maybe Seth Beer could be considered a fringe 50.

I think the dumbest thing the Mets have done is apparently valuing Cano as an asset rather than a bad salary.

That's one snake bit franchise as far as injuries go.

That the Astros want Wheeler makes me want him even more. Why is it that the teams selling off the best players always seem to be in the NL East?

FG has beer as a 40+. i don't think he's even close to a 50.

He has put up close to a 1.000 OPS in high A and AA this year, but I probably wouldn't have him as a 50 either. The Astros have kind of a weird farm. They have 3 prospects who are bonafide elites and then a bunch of mehs.

I guess it would be worth looking into LH platoon OFs to see if there are any obvious candidates out there.

I get the rationale behind getting a left handed outfield bat, even if I don't necessarily agree with it. I absolutely do not get the folks who are clamoring for a Castellanos or Puig trade. Those make no sense to me.

Only reason i sorta want Puig is he'd be a big upgrade for us, and two, he might make Joe Simpson resign.

290/.344/.548 since May 3, with 18 home runs in 69 games, along with 44 RBI for Puig.

I'm not so sure he'd be a big upgrade for us. He's been hot lately, but he has put up a sub .800 OPS on the year in a very hitter friendly park. He has a wRC+ of 99. His defense isn't as good as Duvalls.

He might be a slight upgrade, but not a big one. Almost definitely not big enough for us to move assets for.

We don’t know if they would give that up or not. 95% of what we hear on the rumor market is misinformation
