2020 Trade Deadline Thread

It is night and day difference between him and Camargo.

Over his past 57 ABs, Camargo is hitting .158/.172/.333, and over his past 25 ABs .120/.120/.240

Rilver over his past 54 ABs is hitting .278/.304/.463 and over his last 25 ABs .360/.407/.640

Camargo is truly disappointing. I thought he was one of those guys that would flourish with regular playing time. He has been really bad. I don’t get it.

Probably has a lot to do with attitude....He was sure he was going to get the 3b spot until the Braves signed JD the other year. He has not been the same since then.

Riley closes his eyes and swings, and when he connects every once in a while folks claim he’s coming around.

The Braves need arms more, but folks are grasping at straws with Riley.

I agree, but I still hold out hope that he can be a solid major league contributor one day.

Camargo's struggles had nothing to do with not having a regular job.

That's all there is to get. He's not good.

Yup.

Not sure why anything about him is confusing. He had a career year and they still went out and spent money to replace him. Then Riley struggles as much as he has to start this year and they still keep running him out there.

It's pretty obvious they understand what he is - I'm just amazed Culberson hasn't at least gotten a couple starts given his struggles (and how much Snitker loves him). Sure hope that they're getting their eyes full of Shewmake at the alternate camp because replacing him with Shewmake this winter would seem like an awfully easy way to save some money.

Granted I don’t have anything to back it up, but Riley looks different lately. Working the count a bit and waiting on his pitch. Who knows if it will last or if he’s just in a lucky streak. But the eyeball test tells me he’s doing something different and the results seems to match up.

I mean I didn’t want Camargo for an everyday player, but I sure thought he would do decent in the utility role.

I have no answer as to why Culberson doesn’t see any time. Especially at bats...he’s gotten some big late game hits in the past and he almost hit one out with the only at bat I can remember him getting recently. When you are batting someone like Hech instead.

You are quoting stats over sample sizes that are meaningless. His contact numbers are still exactly what they’ve always been.

I’ve been trying to tell everyone Camargo is not good for about 3 years now based on his predictive stats, and folks kept saying “he just needs consistent PAs”. Those people were wrong.

Now I’m using the same stats to show why Riley isn’t good, and folks are using 25 PA sample sizes to say “he’s coming around”. Those people are wrong.

How many times do the same people have to be wrong about the same things before they take the time to understand what’s really going on?

I’m more interested in Riley’s defensive 3B abilities at this point. He seems to have made some good plays over there although I also feel like I’ve seen some lazy throws.

Do I think AA will feel he needs to sacrifice payroll and prospects at third with Riley’s improvement....no...I do not.

My guess is Minor for someone like Jenista would be a move AA would make.

While I disagree that Riley is the answer at 3b, or will ever be the answer at 3b, I do agree that AA needs to focus resources on pitching.

Teams can win with 1-2 bad cheap players on the roster. Riley is that bad cheap player for the Braves, and they can certainly win with him at 3b since the rest of the team is so good.
