2021 MLB Draft

Without. I imagine they will use the overage and that Cusick will come in below slot as well. Wondering a little bit about Justyn-Henry.

So we’re talking a little over $1M on the positive side? That might just be enough to sign all three remaining prep guys, if there aren’t any hiccups with the remaining college guys. Guess we’ll know more after Collins’ numbers are announced. Would be huge if Cusick is underslot, even by a smaller %, given how big a chunk of the remaining pool that represents.

About that. Talking Chop has Shoemaker at $480,000 and not the $450,000 that was reported earlier so that would cut into it. I think Evans is a real longshot, but if they can scrape up enough they could conceivably get him to ink a contract.

Still think Cusick signs under slot. McGreevy was the guy he seemed to be compared to the most, and he signed with the Cards for $2.75 million ($730K under). If we see similar rationale from Cusick, he'd (hopefully) come in in the $2.2-$2.3 million range. That would open up another $600,000-ish for the HS kids.

They likely know Cusick's number and that's been incorporated into the plan. Really curious to see what Collins' bonus is.

Baseball America reporting that Smith-Shawver signed for $795,900. They're also saying that's currently the second biggest overslot deal in the entire draft among those that have already signed.

Actually, I think I'm wrong here. Slot value at his pick is $201,600, and BA said in a tweet that he signed for $795,900 over slot. I'm no math major but that comes out to $997,500.

That's lower than what a lot of observers thought it would take to sign him. I had read somewhere that many thought it would take more than $1 million to get the job done. Maybe they threw in a pick-up truck. It's worked before.

Edit: I see your correction and that would make sense from what I've read.

Baseball America reporting Justyn Henry Malloy signed for $297,500 and Samuel Strickland signed for $100,000. It shows Shoemaker as unsigned.

If Talking Chop's numbers are correct and Cusick signs for ~ $2.2 million, it looks like that would leave ~$500K to try to get one of Anglin/Evans.

Don't think that will get Evans, but as I mentioned the other day, that $500K range is right around where Estes and Owens signed in 2019.

Looks like the went $40,000 over slot on Malloy. Not breaking the bank, but they must think he really found something at Ga Tech after having a terrible time at Vanderbilt.

We are going to assume all reports are true enough, this only leaves #16 Anglin and #20 Evans unsigned orf are least committed.

Await contract terms for 8th rounder Collins and 14th rounder Durbin.

6th-rder Justyn-Henry Malloy signs w/@Braves for $297,500 (pick 187 value = $257,400). Georgia Tech 3B, bat speed & strength for power (11 HR this spring), solid D at hot corner. @MLBDraft

I did a search on him and he was fairly-highly ranked out of high school. Hard to tell why he didn't play better at Vanderbilt. I get that he needed to adjust as a freshman and I suppose we can pretty much throw out the pandemic year. He had a nice season this year and has walked more than he's struck out in all his collegiate seasons (although two had very small sample sizes) and had good power numbers this year. The scouts know more than I do, so I'll go with it.
