2022 FG Positional WAR Rankings

I agree with the general sentiment that the Dodgers roster is declining rather than improving.

Thing is, even if this is true:

a. It's declining from a very high level
b. With their money and their farm system they are uniquely well-positioned to arrest the decline if they are really motivated to do so

The Dodgers are not really deep. Not anymore.

They're still great at the top, no doubt. And you can certainly make a good argument their lineup is better than ours overall still. But they're not crazy deep anymore. They now definitely need guys like Bellinger and Lux to produce.

A good argument their lineup is better?
We have 2 below average hitters currently in the bottom of our lineup.
Some guy named Dickerson and Dansby.
Once Ronald comes back he fixes some of the issues with the bottom by moving Rosario down but I’d much rather bet on the Dodgers group having better years then DuFail,Dansby, Rosario and TDA.
We really **** the bed on corner outfielders this off-season.
Love all of AA’s moves but not getting a corner outfielder who doesn’t have a noodle arm was a fail and will have to be addressed at the deadline imo

The Dodgers' lineup is projected for just under 6 more WAR than the Braves according to FG, and that is with the difference between Acuna and Bellinger at 1.3. They project Bellinger at 3 WAR. If he's closer to the 0-1 WAR I expect him to put up because he just has no idea what he's doing right now, I expect the Braves' lineup to be very comparable once Acuna is back.

Don't short-change our lineup; it should be very, very good.

Bellinger and Lux have strong potential to be below average hitters as well this year.

I agree on Bellinger as I think he’s done but I like Lux and believe he can be a better Swanson.
He’s getting playing time now so I guess we will see.
Once Ronald comes back we have a very good lineup, I’m just not sold on Rosario/Dansby and to a certain degree Duvall repeating last years results

Dansby hasn't been below average as a hitter for a few years now by pretty much any metric you can use. Especially for a SS. He's been either right at average for a MLB hitter or above average.

I mean he's had under a 100 wRC+ for every year except the shortened 2020 season... that's kind of the definition of an average hitter... which he's usually below...

With Acuna back this lineup is about as good as it gets.

I do think it’s a near certainty AA will be shopping for an OF and a SP at the deadline though. Folks will act like they weren’t obvious holes from opening day.

I agree because I’m not a huge Rosario fan. Think he’s better as a platoon player. Honestly though, if Duvall can continue to play good CF defense over a full season, you can live with his other offensive deficiencies when he’s belting 30 home runs.

I have to wonder if AA wants to see if Harris can get the call up this year. That would leave a Rosario/Duvall platoon/ extra outfielder which wouldn’t be horrible. If not finding someone respectable or bench help shouldn’t be too hard.

I would think his dream scenario (everybody's for that matter) is that Harris continues to grow faster than expected and that Shewmake can take that final step. Harris replacing Heredia and Shewmake replacing one of Davidson/Ynoa/Wright/Strider when rosters are reduced would make this arguably as deep a lineup as anyone's.

But just playing devils advocate. Does the "true CF option" even exist anymore? Look at the Dodgers model. They just rely on positioning based on analytics and throw people like Gavin Lux out there.

Watching the Yankees game and they have Aaron Judge in CF. Not a terrible OF but rates negatively on Fangraphs for defense and definitely not who you'd consider a true center fielder. They used him there last year at times too. It's interesting to see the smart teams pretty much abandon putting the fast light hitting glove first guy in CF.

It's all about positioning. If you do that well then that lessens the need to have a CF who can cover tons of ground.

The Yankees also have Josh Donaldson leading off. Just goes to show you don't need some fast guy leading off. Just high OBP guys.

Would Ozuna be able to throw someone out if they positioned him between the mound and the plate?

Shewmake needs to just make the first step before he can make the final one
