2022 MLB Draft Thread

My point is that every kid is committed somewhere. The amount they typically ask for is what they can realistically get. A kid in the top 5-10 is going to ask for more than a kid ranked 48, even if the kid 5-10 is committed to Auburn and the kid at 48 is committed to Harvard. They’re actually far more likely to be committed to Auburn over Harvard anyway, it’s better for a college baseball player.

If the kid ranked 48 is still going pro even if they get 50 money, you can probably get him to agree to take, say, 40 money at pick 20, thus going significantly under slot. The main issue is what other teams are telling him about where he might be taken.

If a kid just wants to go to school, then it doesn’t matter where you take him. I seriously doubt if Murphy was demanding top 20 money that a) people wouldn’t know it and b) we would have taken him.

I could be wrong, but I doubt Murphy is signing for #48 money (that's where mlb.com has him, but that is not relevant). If he's more than a million under slot, I'll be surprised.

Keith Law wrote that some teams looked at Ritchie as unsignable because of his commitment to UCLA. So he’ll likely be our top bonus.
