2022 Trade Deadline

Considering the money the Tigers sent with him, I definitely think it's not outside the realm of possibility that Alex circles back on someone like Drury or even an extra RH pen arm late this afternoon if other contenders make deals for bigger names and the asking prices for those guys come down if their markets start to dry up.

I believe he made the Melancon and Rodriguez trades within the last few minutes before the deadline, so I expect one in the final hour.

Grossman with pretty stout numbers against lefties but pretty sad numbers overall. Have the Tigers just been blatantly misusing him?

Tigers' offense has been really bad and their OF has to rank as one of the lowest in terms of production in the major leagues. Austin Meadows being banged up has probably forced Grossman into the line-up against RHP.

Smith for a #4 SP seems like a way to dump that contract, and I'm all for it. I imagine it means either Strider is going to the BP to limit innings and/or Soroka won't throw a single pitch this season.

Grossman is, in fact, Rosario's new platoon partner (.348 xwOBA vs LHP in 2021/2022). He was acquired for nothing, so it's a great way to fix Duvall's spot on the roster.

While these are very solid moves I have to admit I was hoping for something a little more impactful...especially for a team that should have plenty of cash to burn. No way I want to see Grossman in LF everyday if Rosario fails to improve.

I think Odorizzi is more of a replacement for Anderson than Strider/Soroka. Maybe he's insurance against Strider/Soroka, but I imagine they immediately he's more of a replacement for Anderson who has been brutal.

This feels like the first deadline/offseason under AA that the lack of prospects has really hurt us. None of the three guys we've traded for move the needle much at all.

Let's also not forget that Tucker Davidson started a potential clincher game in the World Series. Odorizzi helps guard against something like that happening again.

But until the Olson trade, he never gave up any major prospect, and most of the acquisitions he made wound up moving the needle for us.

Anderson and odorizzi are pretty similar in their stats. Odorizzi has a nice lead in FIP, Anderson in xFIP, and pretty close in xERA. Odorizzi has a much better ERA

Odorizzi isn't walking the world though. His HR rate is a bit suppressed, so there may be some regression there, but it isn't majorly concerning.

I don't see anyway Odorizzi takes the option for next year btw, unless he just ends the year terribly. Looks like he's basically guaranteed to get the 6.5 million buyout. And you would figure he'd easily beat a 1 year 6 million offer as a FA.

Love the idea of getting Grossman for virtually nothing. If he just does what he has the last two years against lefties its going to be massive for the team repeat chances.

AA continues to get the job done.
