I am curious the return for Lopez of the O's.. he would have been a really good get. I got to imagine the price was high.. But then, this is his first good season in the bigs and isn't a high K guy so maybe not that big of a return.

The Braves aren't the only team that "buys" prospects or buys down contracts to get rid of veterans during a rebuild to fill a need elsewhere (the Astros had NO LHPs in their pen, so even Smith is an upgrade). Alex got $3.2 million to replace Smith with Yates AND add veteran rotation depth at the same time, and got $3.2 million for a platoon partner for Rosario for a Pitcher who wasn't very likely going to ever see the major leagues AND opened up innings for the HS arms that they just drafted to gobble up.

Where are you seeing that the Braves are receiving cash in these deals? I haven’t seen that reported anywhere.

Grossman only makes ~$1.75m for the remainder of the year, so that’d mean the Tigers are paying the Braves ~$1.5m just to buy Anglin and not employ Grossman, which I don’t buy.

Its obviously going to work because Strider has an incredible arm. The goal should be to protect his longevity so whatever moves need to be made for that I support.

No - had absolutely no clue.

Trading for a 4th LHP in the pen would be an absolute waste of a prospect. Lee was already being under-utilized because of Snitker's allegiance to Smith. Using a prospect to add another one when you can use Muller for that role AFTER he finishes making all his starts and the minor league season is over would simply be stupid. Adding Muller to the roster during the playoffs would be EXACTLY the same way they handled Wright last season - they put him on the roster to be an Opener and let him go as deep as he could go - the first time he got in even a little trouble Snitker was going to go get him. You add Muller if the opponent's roster sets you up to potentially need a 4th lefty in the pen and have him be the first one out of the pen if your SP has a bad start so you can save Minter/Matzek/Lee for the high-leverage innings. You don't give a prospect away - ANY PROSPECT - to fill a role that you're not at all likely going to need to fill.

The Nats got ripped off. That's insane no one tried to swoop in and top that.
