2022 Trade Deadline

Turner is the guy I want the most. His bat plays anywhere. If Grissom can handle SS for a couple years you can even put Turner in LF. He’s a great hitter. It also keeps the team athleticism sky high. Harris, Acuna, Albies, Turner, Grissom can all really run.

Turner's gonna get like double what Dansby will or even triple. Gonna be an absolute mammoth contract.

I could see Correa opting in and staying for 35 million for one more year in Minnesota. He wouldn’t get more than that on the open market anyways. I think we’ll see Fried locked up next out of all of our guys. Dansby has been approached with an extension but he’s so close to the FA market now that he wont sign before hitting it. Dansby doesn’t seem like a take less than market value type of guy so he’ll be out for the biggest he can get. But having all of these guys locked up for a long time and seeing how competitive we are would be really tempting if I were Dansby to stay put and take less.

Dansby is having a career year just ahead of FA. Before that, he has had stretches of being super hot and super cold. We will see how his agents judge his value and if other teams agree.

It'll probably be like with Donaldson/Freeman. We have an offer on the table, let's say 4/80ish or 5/100, and see if he can get more.

Depends because when you project outward into years 3/4 and on you have a bunch of under performing players off the books. But you can't expect to have efficient contracts at all positions.

Also have the new TV deal coming in 5 years. It's in the team's best interest to make the Braves as hot of a commodity as possible going into those negotiations. Keep the product, attendance, viewership, and results going strong to max out that deal. That's why I expect Dansby to be gone and a superstar brought in for one of the open lineup spots in the next couple of years. They can't let the apathy of the late 90s set in.

I wish there was a better outfield class to choose from. With the farm being so low right now and Judge being the only OF difference maker on the FA market the production will almost have to come from SS.

All of these teams can see all of that and know it so he may end up over playing his market.

Mitch Haniger is intriguing. But he might be a West Coast guy.

I don't feel good about giving Dansby a mega contract either, but let's not kid ourselves, letting him go in the off-season is a big risk. Good two-way shortstops are fairly rare commodities, and if you try playing Arcia as your everyday shortstop there's a very real chance you're running out a replacement-level player at one of the most important positions on the field when you're trying to win a title.

If Grissom keeps hitting and if he can stick at short, then OK -- he can take over sometime next year or 2024 at the latest and you're good to go. But that's betting a lot on one good but not elite prospect.

What are you considering a mega contract? When you look at AAV, The Braves really don't give out mega contracts. I suspect Dansby is looking at a Braves offer in the $15 -$18 million AAV range. If he says no and hits FA, I'm guessing AA already has contingencies in place.

Love Swanson but I just don't see how you give a big contract to a SS where a good chunk of their value is derived from defense. Swansons defensive peak is either now or behind him. Paying for that is super risky.

This is where I am.
I know Dansby has been a good hitter over a large sample too, but I don't see him as an impact bat. I could be wrong. He's aging and I think his value is too high in the defense size. IF Riley is our 3B for a decade we likely need a SS with big time range.

You offer him the QO. Maybe he takes it so he's not going out with all these big SS names. Like a 10% chance.

IF you think Grissom and/or Arcia won't kill you, then you can play the dangerous game of musical chairs and see what happens. Decent chance one of those guys won't find a home and you can get them on a one year deal or two year deal. We do get to sell a great chance at winning.

Agree with other posters there is not an obvious OF bat either. WE don't have the guys to trade. Conforto is not going to play for a year. Judge is going to cost a fortune.

Another variable is what do they think about Harris? His OBP is like 315. He is not hitting lefties. Now he's 21 and has a handful of professional at bats before the big leagues. He does not look overmatched to me, even vs lefties. IF you think he's a legit hitter, then it is much more palatable to plug SS with a glove only dude. If you think Harris is more of a 750 OPS and no LF upgrade, then I'm worried.

Forgive me if this has been mentioned, but Marlins writer Craig Mish wrote that we had conversations with the Marlins about a dealing centered around Ozuna and Avisail Garcia. He said talks didn't get very serious, but that's the first time I've seen mention of us trying to unload that contract.

Garcia is owed $12 million for each of the next three years.

Speculation on Acuna's mood is just that...speculation.

Nobody knows how he feels and he could be thrilled that he is getting paid a bunch and playing for a winning team. I doubt these guys are having Dick measuring contests in the locker room with their bank statements out.

The acuna thing annoys me. That is just people trying to stir things up and/or not understanding the situations.

Olson and Riley are signing through their mid 30s. That is them saying this is my big payday. It is extremely unlikely anyone gives them a long term deal after 35.

Acuna signed a deal, as did Albies, with the idea of getting money and security up front but letting them hit the market at 30 to get another big deal.

I am pretty confident if Acuna went into AA's office and said I'd like to be a brave for life he'd get a bunch of money and set a new record. If he wants to be a brave through 35, he can probably get 10/300 by end of business with a team option or two on the end for 25-30.

If he wants to be Soto and get 500 million, then he should have not signed the extension and held off on the gold lambo for a couple more years.

I saw that... I think I'd rather have Ozuna at his price than Avisail. He's one of the few regulars out there that has been more dreadful than Ozuna.
