2023 Misc Braves Talk

The 40-year-old right-hander has been progressing nicely in his recovery from a microfracture of his left shin. Braves’ skipper Brian Snitker told reporters on Friday that Chavez is throwing the ball well and that he’ll sit down with the training staff soon to determine a potential timeline for his return. He has been shelved since June 14 when he suffered the injury as he was hit in the leg by a comebacker.

Olson cutting his strikeout rate each month continues to amaze me

Mar/Apr - 35%
May - 25%
Jun - 24%
Jul - 21%
Aug - 18%
Sept/Oct - 12%

This is the first time I'm hearing the word microfracture regarding Chavez. They have played his injury close to the vest.

this team needs a better pen next year. 5 elite pen arms will win in the playoffs.. even with average starting pitching. If the Braves fail this postseason, I bet the pen will be the blame. Unfortunately, we will have to count on guys like Lee/JJ/Hand/Johnson/yates and not one of those guys gives me confidence they can give the Braves a clean inning 80% of the time.

With Nick Anderson, Chavez, Wright on the mend, it's tbd what the playoff bullpen will be.

I dont think the pen is that bad, fwiw. JJ/Anderson/Pierce Johnson/Yates/Iggy/Tonk with Lee and Minter from the left side is more than enough.

The big questions with the playoff pen are who's gonna make it back and do we want 2 or 3 LHP. If Wright Chavez and Anderson all come back we'll have an abundance of strong RHP options.

We have the best pen in the NL and the 3rd best pen in the majors behind the Yankees and Baltimore. The pen has a 3.51 ERA... second place in the NL is the Dodgers with a 3.70 ERA... so we have the best NL pen by quite a lot.

Verlander has been his usual self. Scherzer has been good too, though he got lit up his last start.

I more so was talking about the guys in the Braves range. Those guys went for much better prospects than Atlanta would’ve been able to do.

So we have to endure 3 quad A pitchers in 4 games over 3 days. Yeah, I know the guys who were traded have been dog pile of crap, but anyone watching these 3 days has to question AA not grabbing a pitcher at the deadline.. thank god the lead is way too large for it to impact the Braves.

If he had given up any kind of prospect for a pitcher who has **** the bed since the deadline you'd 100% be whining about that.
