2023 Misc Braves Talk

Like Matt said, Acuna would have to go cold not to win at this point. Fangraphs WAR uses OOA + UZR Arm instead of fielding run values from statcast, so his lead in WAR is probably understated since UZR isn’t as sophisticated at measuring how many advances RAJ prevents.

I believe Acuna would be up to ~6.5 WAR if they used Statcast's arm values. Unless Freeman goes on a tear to where he is a good 10 points above Acuna in WRC+ and over 1 WAR higher I think the award is Acuna's.

Man just imagine how amazing Acuna would be if he could get a good jump in the OF

my take away is he needs to walk more.. a lot more. not complaining about that line.. it is impressive, but that average and OBP are way too close together.

my take away is this poster is someone that needs to be beaten with a rubber hose.

Unless you like that sorta thing, then its a car antenna.

He is walking considerably more than last season, though still fairly low overall. But his hit tool is good enough to support a low walk rate, imo. Since he came up I've always felt like he is a left handed version of Starling Marte.

I think his K rate and hit rate do help his low walks. I guess I just dream on what he could be if he did walk more.. but then you hear guys say that when they try to be more selective, they miss the pitch they could hit.. so, I don't think he should do anything drastic to change what is working and working well.. but if he could ever get that BB% closer to 10, well, it would be dangerous..

Y’all…. MH2 is a MVP in the wings - the only reason he isn’t sporting a .300 and close to 30 bombs right now is his two months of injury and recovery….that’s the one dude on this team I ain’t worried about (not that my input or amount of worry adds any value whatsoever to this discussion)

Big same on this one.

Olson is going to go cold here pretty soon, and fall out of the race.

I just can’t see this happening. He’s been so consistent and locked in for so long. He might not keep hitting bombs at this insane rate but he’s on another level this year.

Braves are currently 5th in the league in attendance behind the Dodgers, Yankees, Padres and Cardinals, and ahead of the Phillies. On pace for over 3 million fans in back to back years which is incredible.

This team is going to be tough to beat in the playoffs. I know anything can happen, but not one part of the team struggles for long, and when they do another one seems to pick them up. The starters were pretty bad for a few weeks so the offense goes on a historical tear. Then, the starters figure it out and throw back-to-back shut outs while the offense takes an ever so slight backseat. All the while, the bullpen is elite and incredibly deep. What a damn treat the 2023 Braves are.

The BP doesn't seem to have any elite arms this year save Chavez before he went down with injury. But everyone in the BP is a quality pitcher. I honestly feel comfortable with any of the current group when they come into the game. Haven't felt that way in a while. McHugh is probably our worst reliever, and yet he was our best reliver a year ago.
