If this clip is surprising to anybody, you must not be familiar with Stewart’s shtick. He might be a Leftist, but he has pretty much always been willing to call out the weird pageantry and absurdity of politics from both sides. These conventions are always complete bull**** media spectacles.
Last stray thought of the morning: seeing a concerted effort on social media to paint the RFK endorsement as a watershed moment showing a brand new shift in American politics. It’s not. RFK Jr. has *some* progressive policies, but those policies aren’t the ones he was heavily promoting or what his most visible supporters were cheering on. The fact that he has the last name Kennedy doesn’t make him his father or JFK and the insistence of the Right that this is a big deal makes me laugh given the whole “drain the swamp” narrative that persists. What’s more swampy and deep state-y than generational legacy politicians?
Does anybody know the current status of Kennedy’s campaign in terms of collecting donations and campaigning as a candidate? The cynic in me can’t help but wonder if RFK will continue to take donations from people in states where he is not running and using those to actively campaign for Trump. I don’t think it’d be illegal, but it feels scummy if he did.

That’s not knives out. Jill Stein is actively running for President because she doesn’t believe in the values of the Democratic Party. Her taking an opportunity to call out the Dems is basically her job right now. And the Dems have played into it by trying to restrict her access to being on the ballot, which she has a right to complain about.
