2024 Minor League Thread

Excited to see Kuehler is starting for Augusta tonight. No Rome pitcher announced yet, but Lucas Braun is the only one of their starter prospects who hasn't thrown so I would guess him. JJ Neikro starting in Mississippi.

Rome starters have been smoking.

Ex-Brave farmhands ripping the Stripers today. Waters 1/3 with a 3B and 2 RBIs. CJ Alexander 3/4 with an HR and 1 RBI. Gwinnett will probably see the other guy in the JR Ritchie deal (RHP Andrew Hoffman) later in the series.

Cade Kuehler looks pretty good. FB is solid...change and slider look above average. Struck out 7 I think. "Sits" about 93-94 if you ask me but I don't pay much attention to guns in the minors. I was told he could run it up to 98, but Braves lore has taught me to trust my own thoughts. Lol. He was very good. A few too many CH left up, but he kept hitters of balance.

Players I like. Drake. Looks the part..no results, bad swings. Yuck. Diego Benitez is my dude. Bigger..good actions..but may be an error guy until he's gotten reps. Robert Gonzalez I think? Good swings...but overall..just dudes.

Would imagine Kuehler is in Rome pretty quickly as a college draft pick last year.

Benitez look good at the plate to you, Deester? Stats look good so far. Really hoping he can have a breakout year.

I was a little surprised when Drake went to Augusta and Glod didn't. I don't know if Glod is injured, but he also has big-time swing-and-miss issues. I also wouldn't have been surprised if Guanipa had leapfrogged the FCL altogether. Everything I read during the off-season is that Drake oozes tools but is more raw than gas station sushi. I'm curious if Drake will head down to the FCL when that season starts in June.

Nice to hear on Kuehler. I don't think he'll be in Augusta very long.

He has an idea at the plate. I won't say he has looked dominate but I've liked his approach versus anything I've seen previously. He's holding his own so far. Sample size I know...but it's an improvement over last year in his approach.

(I wrote something a couple of years ago about the Yankees originally having a deal for him. Atlanta signed him away when they ran out of money). I too am hoping he (Benitez) pans out. My "could," " should," "might" and "can " player is Tavarez though.

Ex-Braves haunt Gwinnett again today. CJ Alexander 1/4, 1 2B, 1 RBI. Andrew Hoffman 5 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K. Alexander is off to a strong start, but he's a guy without a real defensive position and he strikes out a ton. Curious if he gets a call from the Royals.

I'm fine with JR Ritchie, but I always wondered about Hoffman as the seeming throw-in in that deal. He's pitched poorly since the trade, but the Royals have kept on promoting him. Big guy at 6-5/210 and is only 24. Braves' 12th-rounder in 2021.

Waldrep another stinker. 4.1 innings 4 hits 4 walks 3k';s 4 earned runs. Owens Murphy with another good start though for Rome. 5.1 innings 1 ER 8k 4 hits 3 walks.

Drake makes George Lombard look like Babe Ruth. Ugh. I'm loving Benitez..results or not, he's gotten bigger and his approach looks improved to me. Saw Tavarez recently and let's just...my love of prospects have blinded me. There are at bats where I want to post an "I told yall," but mostly I cringe. And its bad because he can absolutely pick it at SS.

Not sure what the deal with Elder is. Was scratched Saturday and then was supposed to finish the series yesterday but then Ynoa pitched. Is Elder actually pitching in Atlanta tonight or is it really going to be Vines?

Not a fan of Benitez. Dude looks chunky for a shortstop and doesn’t hit well enough for 3rd base. He looks like a Rich man’s Kevin Maitan
